Past income does not count. Current income does. Juliet and Steve, I am surprised that the consulate didn't catch you are unemployed. You are not a suitable sponsor, and this will be revealed at the AOS stage. I hope for your fiance's sake you can get a co-sponsor.

I am always amazed that people are unemployed and the consulate approves their finances based only on past income. I do not see how the CO cannot notice they are unemployed unless they simply do not state they are on the I-134 for #7: "I am employed as or engaged in the business of ________." Listing their past occupation I guess?

That is not possible on the I-864 though. It has a section specifically asking if you are unemployed.

This is what I'm thinking too. I'll talk to him later after his work. I don't know if this is possible since he's only been there for almost a month and it's a big company. Thanks for the idea:)

We're having almost the same circumstances,my fiance is been working full time for almost 5months & we want to schedule interview at earliest possible time but we're not sure if were good to go because he havent made permanent yet. What i can add here is, you save at least 3-4 months of his pay stubs to substantiate the proof of his income & I think that would be a good idea also if he can ask favor from his superior a letter stating that he is working full time in the company.

Hi,

We're planning to wait until he gets hired "full time" before we schedule the interview. This whole visa thing is getting the best of me:(

By the way, you filed the petition in 2010?Am I reading this right? Are you also a member of the AW group? I wanted to send you messages but it says you can't receive them. Can I add you on fb?:))

I'm in a similar situation... thought I'm actually unemployed. I'm searching for work, and was hoping to be employed before the interview, but that hasn't worked out. I have two co-sponsors, though, so I'm hoping the consulate will take that into account. The key is to prove my fiancee won't need federal assistance, and I think we've shown that very clearly.

Hi Ciyin, when's your interview? My fiance' and I agreed to wait until he gets hired full time before we schedule the interview. We've been arguing about this everyday, I was kinda blaming him for moving to a new company while we're on the process but finally today we agreed to be more patient and just wait.

I wish you good luck on your visa journey and I believe you'll find a new job soon:)

Her interview is on Oct. 28th, so just two weeks away now. I should say that I've accepted a part-time position at a store nearby, but I won't begin soon enough to be able to provide documentation, and the job won't pay anywhere near the poverty line anyway.

I only returned to the US 3 months ago, so getting a high-paying position in time for her interview was a stretch. But we spent all of last year living in different cities, and now we're in different countries, so we really want to get the visa ASAP.
