Moscow Stabbing Death Sets Off Street Riots, Hundreds Detained

MOSCOW -- MOSCOW (AP) — The stabbing death of an ethnic Russian man has ignited anger in Moscow against people from the Caucasus, with demonstrators breaking into a shopping center and storming a vegetable warehouse Sunday evening. Police detained hundreds of people.

The man was believed to have been killed by a native of the North Caucasus, a region in southern Russia where the people are predominantly Muslim. Caucasus natives work in the shopping center and at many vegetable markets around the Russian capital.

The Investigative Committee, Russia's main investigative agency, said in a statement that the 25-year-old man was killed in a dispute over his girlfriend as the couple returned home on Thursday. Investigators have questioned witnesses, the statement said.

Police released a photograph of the suspect taken by a security camera, but he has not been identified.

Video streamed live on Dozhd television showed the unrest in Biryulyovo, a working-class district in far southern Moscow. Hundreds of ethnic Russians were involved in the protests, and some of them chanted nationalist slogans.

The city police department called up additional forces to try to quell the violence.

Police stepped up patrols throughout the city and moved to close off a square just outside the Kremlin to prevent a repeat of 2010 riots, when thousands of nationalists and soccer fans protested the killing of an ethnic Russian during a fight between soccer fans and natives of the North Caucasus.

Riot police detained several people after demonstrators shattered windows at the shopping center. Other demonstrators then threw bottles and trash at the officers to demand the release of those detained, the Interfax news agency reported, citing police.

Hundreds of people set off from there for the vegetable warehouse, marching through the streets. Moscow police chief Anatoly Yakunin said during a televised briefing that the demonstrators overturned cars.

Helmeted riot police blocked their path, but dozens still managed to break into the warehouse. Police said they detained about 200 people at the warehouse. Later in the evening, demonstrators again gathered outside the shopping center and clashed with police, who said about 100 more were detained.

Rioters smashed shop windows, stormed a warehouse and clashed with police in a Moscow neighbourhood on Sunday in the biggest outbreak of anti-migrant unrest in the Russian capital in three years.

Demonstrators, some chanting racist slogans, vandalised shops and other sites known for employing migrant workers in the southern Biryulyovo area after the killing of a young ethnic Russian widely blamed on a man from the Caucasus.

Several hundred residents had protested peacefully, demanding justice over the killing, until a group of young men began smashing windows in a shopping centre and briefly set it on fire. A video posted on Youtube showed them chanting “White Power!” as they forced their way in.

From these pictures, you ascertain that there was no looting - not sure how you do that but whatever. A real stand-up, law abiding crowd it must have been going for a little Kristallnacht in Moscow and you've got nothing better to do than pulling that comment out of your #######. When you mentioned "law abiding".... I knew right away you were referring to Russians rather than the Illegals who brought cheaper prices at the market but a lot more crime.

I know it can be confusing but the term "Black" in Russia refers to folks who are a bit darker than white, typically from Kazakhstan or places were people look a bit more "Ethnic." On the level of Sicilian or Middle Eastern. (Sometimes even lighter)

Clearly the Russians in this case were not imitating what "we" would call Blacks and how do we know that?

For one they didn't burn down their own businesses and neighborhoods, no one got raped and no Ipads, shoes or Tv's were stolen. They seem to be tired of the furiners messin up their hood and they focused on them.

But the continued lesson we can glean from this is that...... "Rioting works."

Yep, when people riot, the Gov't rewards them, over here Blacks typically get concessions in the form of social programs or some "Justice committee" is formed.

And in Russia, the Rioters were rewarded with the rounding up of a butt-load of illegals. (Expect produce prices to rise)

I used to think Rioting was destructive and counter productive to any cause but thats just not true..... Even recently, merely the threat of a riot brought trumped up charges against G. Zimmerman. Even the Attorney General and the President gave this silly case attention and resources.

Not long ago as London burned, before the fires were even out the conversation immediately went to: "What can we do to reach out to the disaffected among us."

Considering that, I think it's a technic which the Tea-Party or any other group on the Right should use as well, in fact the Left (Typically Blacks) have had this form of civil disobedience way too long. Back in the 1800's the White folk used to riot all the time, but in the modern era (post ww2) Blacks seem to almost exclusively been the source of rioting, in truth when one looks at the List of riots we have had in this country one can't help but notice in almost every case they are the result of "Diversity" yup, yup,.... despite the " recent myth" it would seem diversity has lit a lot of fires and spilt a lot of blood.

(Though the occasional sporting event got the party started too a few times.)

First of all, I understand that the blacks in America are not considered the same as what they would call a black person in Russia. Soo obvious.

Second, the racist propaganda in this country said that there would be rioting if no one tried Zimmerman, you did not personally hear this from ANY black person's mouth. Just like they said if he got off there would be mass rioting and all the blacks would try to kill all the whites in America and here we are months later and I don't see any black people stabbing or shooting white people because of the Zimmerman trial so bringing this up is a moot point.

I just thought it was funny how you talk about black people so badly, but here your fellow Russians are rioting over someone that was killed but for blacks in America they cannot riot if someone from their race is killed, especially when it is an underage kid. Look at how you are defending them like you are their savior. It is clear that you can understand their anger but you cannot understand a black person's anger because you think we are animalistic instead of human beings.
