For applicants under 14 years of age:

  • Filing with the I-485 application of at least one parent have a fee total of $635

Since her children are not under 14, they will each need to pay the same $1070 as their mother. This is also stated on Page 5 of the I-485 instructions> http://www.uscis.gov/files/form/i-485instr.pdf

I would think many are illegals because they can't afford to pay for the process - for one person - not too bad but when you bring a family - expensive - people obviously still want to come to the US for opportunities - many can't afford it - in Colombia the average wage is $500/month - so tough tto save much and would take a long time to save enough to pay for the visa process ( with no refund if you get turned down).

Bringing a spouse/fiancé/fiancée from oversea is a privilege, but it comes with a cost (whether we agree with it or not). Personally, I think the immigration process is cheap when compared to the daily living expenses when they get here (like additional cost for food, medical/dental insurance, utilities, and etc.). My wife's dental work alone cost more than 4 times the K1 immigration processing fees when she got here. All I can say is file your families AOS ASAP (borrow the money if you have to), so they can move on with their life in the US instead of being stuck in limbo. In a few years, you will probably forget about the immigration cost and worry about something else that's life.

I completely agree with most of the posts. If you are having trouble coming up with the funds then the future will only get more difficult. Immigration isn't "cheap" and I am actually glad it isn't. I have actually written before that I think the cost of immigration is a bargain and should actually be much more expensive. Sorry if that cheeses some but it is my opinion. Good luck to you and your new family.

May love and laughter light your days,
and warm your heart and home.
May good and faithful friends be yours,
wherever you may roam.
May peace and plenty bless your world
with joy that long endures.
May all life's passing seasons
bring the best to you and yours!

Agree w . all the Comments as Im the only income person and my family change from 2 my oldes daugther and my self to 5 as my wife arrive in the states w. our son and her baby girl . My monthly budget is usually gone by day 20 of each month .

Love will make it happen Finances will go to the garbage . If i had to do it again for my wife ,baby boy and her baby girl i will do it in a second . No regreats however the reality can't be block .

If you are hurting for $$ Mary in Colombia and safe Money . 1) Wedding are cheaper down there .2) You will have 1 year to save for the big fees and air fare . 3) If you really work smarter not harder . a) You will get some friends to do the following : Get all Colombian Document Translated , Get another friend to do the notary part . W, that alone you are saving good money . b) Remeber that the Kids father is Colombia must relase the kids to the wife in writting and must be documented by Colombian Official . That is Money also . You dont want to spend all the money and air fare and then the Colombian goverment stop the kids on the airport .

Good Luck and get ready .

I have the income to pay all the fees and support the wife and girls, of course also have a daughter in college a 15 year old son and an ex-wife - so basically everyone is in my pocket so nothing new I guess.

Just that the fees just seem to keep coming and seem to be never ending, i don't know how people could possibly do this if they were younger with a limited income.

Yes living in Colombia would be much cheaper ( which 8 have done in the past for 3 years) but would not want to work for Colombian wages.

The older daughter was not sure she wanted to come, left behind a novio, but all her friends and relatives basically told her that the opportunity was like hitting the lotto for her. Chance for a better education and work opportunities once she finishes her schooling. The younger one was sold on coming once she knew she would have a pass to Seaworld and Busch Gardens - haha ( she lived here before with us for 6 months on a tourist visa)
