We're not talking just being bitten, people...the dog gnawed her toes off!

I am not advocating animal abuse ie tying a dog to a post or anything like that...but if a dog is bigger than your child, you should not leave them alone together in the same vicinity. I'll widen my opinion to ANY big dog...labs, dobermans, etc.

And no one is doubting that this was a pitbull, and that it wasnt a bitten baby but toes bitten OFF. also take in affect the puppy was 6 WEEKS old, hardly a big dog yet, dangerous yet still not big. NONETHELESS, this is all because of the parents, the dog is NOT to blame, the parents are.

the parents are to blame cos the dog shouldn't have been around the kid...see where I'm goin with this??

I feel so sorry for that little baby. Her parents definitely need to be looked into to find out how they could both sleep through their baby's screams.

I feel guilty for pointing this out, but I must confess that I laughed when I read that woman's quote about the pit bull being "less chewy" than its littermates. Does that make me a bad person??

I hope the little girl heals well and that something like this never happens again.

No, it doesnt make you a bad person, i thought to myself, what does the puppy being "less chewy" then the littermates really have much to do with what happened? The sad fact is the parents are the guilty ones in this for allowing their child to be put in this situation. I just pray the baby will heal ok.

I hope the child is allowed to be adopted or fostered by a family that will actually care for her. I mean, how can the parents justify buying a puppy when the child didn't even have a cot to sleep in, you know? At first I thought they might have got the puppy for free, because of 'pit bulls' bad repuation. But they I read the part about the woman who sold them the puppy.

The sad fact is, these people were already neglecting their child, before they even got the dog.

Too late now, who's going to want to adopt a baby with gnawed-off toes? :innocent:

The puppy is not to blame, the parents are. The puppy must of been hungry and the parents must of been on something not to feed their dog or to listen to the baby crying.

I grew up with pets all around and never had that sort of problem. I see no problem in having a dog and baby as long as they don't stay unattended when in the same room.

Hmm... baby - one month old old. Puppy - six weeks old. Toe-gnawing aside... I'm having a hard time trying to imagine why anyone would think 'right, we've just brought home our newborn baby... time to get a puppy!'

And if the parents were sleeping right beside the baby... the only other alternative to them not hearing her crying, was that they could hear her, but were choosing to ignore her and trying to sleep through the crying... for an hour or more. While the puppy chewed off her toes.
