I'm not sure why it raises such righteous indignation to suggest that a problem can be fixed through education.

you're suggesting you'd be on board to pay extra in order to educate the children for the parents' inability to pay. sure personal finance is important, but not something that matters in the elementary world.

I'm sure my mother wishes there were such things as school lunches when I was a kid. There were a few times she kept me home from school, because we had no food and therefore no school lunch at all. It wasn't a matter of being educated with your personal finances. The truth is, after rent, she had about a hundred bucks for utilities, food and clothing for the rest of the month. What is there to budget? I know in this country some families get more and situations differ, but it's insulting to suggest that all it takes is a few lessons on personal finance to be able to afford lunches for your kids.

I've learned many times over never to judge someone until you know their situation. My mother was able to feed me just fine, until the recession hit and she lost her job due to strike action. Then again, I don't need to justify our life to anyone. What a hateful thing to even joke about.

I don't know of anyone who has an issue with feeding a hungry kid. What I have an issue with is not fixing the problem that is sending the kids to school hungry.

I wonder how they make it thru the off months.Seeing as how they would starve to death without free lunches.

I am not against feeding poor kids. I am against another entitlement program that has run amok with liberal stupidity and rampant fraud.

How about this..Anyone caught lying on the application gets 2 years probation the first time and 3 years in prison the 2nd time.

Then offer a 1000 dollar reward to anybody who turns in someone committing fraud.

LOL I bet applications would drop by at least 60%

working parents, struggling to make ends meet with stagnant wages and constant cost of living increases, make up the majority of kids who receive reduced lunch in my neck of the woods..

imagine taking care of four school aged children on 14 bucks an hour "with" a deadbeat 20,000 behind on child support. you wouldn't qualify for food stamps (in virginia), lunch costs would be about $60.00 bucks a week. the person making that work out doesn't need any sort of lesson in personal finance. they already know how to walk a tight wire.

And some people were doing quite well before the recession. People in cars, ins, real estate were hit vey hard. I'm sure they thought they were doing well enough at the time, before they started, "breeding."

But there were also some people who were never doing good before the recession. They need a one child per household food stamp rule.
