Well "Stick a fork on me I'M DONE"!!!!

I'M A UNITED STATES CITIZEN!!!

The Oath Ceremony was yesterday at the Federal Court house, there were 50 applicants, there was a judge presiding the ceremony and an invited Judge that gave a very moving speech, he showed us his Naturalization Certificate too, letting us know that he was also an immigrant and that the opportunities in this country and endless!

I din't mark that I wanted my name changed, so I don't know why I was part of a judicial ceremony, but I'm glad.

They didn't let take pictures inside the court house until the Judge let us. But at the end we had the chance to take pictures with the judges. It was a beautiful ceremony and they also invited 2 of the future citizens to speak and share their stories.

Now on the other hand, very important info here, the immigration officer assisting the ceremony told us that even with the government shutdown they were still interviewing and hosting oath ceremonies, but some of the steps that we need to take after becoming a citizen can NOT be taken until the government reopens.

For example, we can't go to the Social Security Office and let them know that you became a citizen because they are closed. You can go and apply for a passport but they WON'T be processed until the shutdown is over, so he said your papers will sit there waiting for somebody to process them, he recommended we apply for a passport once the shutdown is over. However you CAN register to vote....

I hope this info helps so you have an idea of what to expect.

I wan to THANK all of the Visa Journey community for all the help and support provided along our experience, and I will stay in touch to help others on this page along the way as well.

THANKS!
