HI guys, this is a great day for my wife and I, I got the Green card in the mail! I was going to inform you guys on how the interview went. So..we got the interview letter in the mail saying when and where to go, it said to bring the usual info. Marriage Cert, proof of ongoing relationship, etc.. One of the items requested was Afidavid of Support form and supporting docs including W-2, paystubs, or 1040..."IF NOT ALREADY SUBMITTED". Since we already included that in the original package, I didnt think it was a big deal, but had a photocopy of the original we sent in anyway. I came armed with about 20 pics of us together with our family, us on vacation, us celebrating our anniversary with her parents, me with her family at the beach..Joint bank account, joint apartment lease, joint car insurnace, her SSN with her changed name.

When we got to the interview, the officer was quite pleasant. She smiled and greeted us, and made small talk about the weather on the way to her office. She then told us to have a seat and swore us in. She then asked me my full name, address and phone number and asked for my ID. I gave her my driver's licence. She did the same for my wife. Then she opened our file. I noticed she had marked notes on some form in red ink. She then said " Did you bring the W-2?" I said, No, sorry we didnt have it, but we have a 1040 that shows us filing joint taxes," She said " No, I need the W-2, that is why YOUR APPLICATION WAS REJECTED, BECAUSE YOU DIDNT INLCUDE THE W-2" My heart sank and I felt terrible. I triple checked everything in that package, and I know if the W-2 was so important I would not miss that. In fact, when we submitted my wife did not get her W-2 for the current year yet. I became defensive and said "I have the 10-40 which shows the same information" She gave me a stern look and said " I didnt ask you for that, I asked you for the W-2" I said, " But I never revieved any RFE for the W-20" She replied "Yes, you did, it was requested in your interview letter" I replied "Well actually I am now employed as a mechanical Engineer and have a letter from my work " She said in a stern voice " Sir, you did not suibmit the affidavid of support, your wife did, so that is not applicable" I said " Well since we now have joint income, I just thought it was relevant for your records, sorry." She took my employement letter and read it anyway. Then she made some notes for a few minutes. I was sure she would tell us to come back with the W-2. She then asked me a few questions, like if I had children, if I was a terrorist, or ever conspired against the USA, if I was a Nazi, If I had a drug or alcohol problem, and a few more along those lines. I answered No to all. Then she said " You card will be mailed to you within 30 days" I was stunned! I said " To clarify, you mean my application to adjust my status to a permamnent resident has been approved, correct?" She said "Yes, that is correct. You may leave, the gaurd will see you out now" That was it. In a week and a half the card came in the mail!...

I am happy but I wonder why she first said "your application has been rejected" I didnt think the W-2 was so important and a requirement for the afidavid of support. Was she just trying to scare us? Also, what happens to my ESTA number now. I plan on going home this Christamas, what do I show at immigration?"
