Hello there,

I'm on visitor status right now , in USA.

Since i was 16 i received a Tourist visa for 10 years and also : visa R , type P4 , for 1 year long .

I know type p4 allows you to stay/study/work in United States.

I would like to know if i can extend this visa and start to study at United States soon .

Thank you.

The P4 visa is only valid as long as the principal applicant (I assume your mother or father) is in the U.S. in P status. Is that the case? If so, your status should have been extended when theirs was. IF not, you have no staying to extend your stay. And, BTW -- the P4 never authorized you to work in the US. You could attend school while in the US as a dependent, but not work. It does not allow you to remain in the US after the P visa holder has left/is not longer in P status in order to continue your studies.

5 years passed since i received my p4 visa, and yes my mom was working here.

Just wondered if in that case , there is something i can do with this visa , but i guess that's worth nothing ...

There is any other way to study here?

There is nothing you can do with an expired P4 visa, especially when your mother no longer works here. Forget about it at this point.

You need an F-1 student visa to study here.

Since your mother "was working here", can we presume that is no longer true?

How have you been legally living in the US? Did you simply not return home when your mother did?

So to study here in us , i need to go over the embassy and ask for a type f-1 visa ?

No one can tell you what your chances if getting a student visa.

You need to be accepted at a college/university and get an I-20 from the school before you can even apply for a student visa.

Google student visa. It is not as simple as going to the US Embassy and asking for an F-1 visa.

If you are in US right now I am guessing you are in the US on a tourist visa, previous P4 is out of question.

As Aaron said you need to apply to a school and have to be accepted and issued I-20 before you can apply for student visa.

There is no one answer if you will get a visa or not but if you wish to go to school in US than you need F1.
