How does my wife get SSN? please help

How will my wife recievce her SSN, will it come with her Green Card?

Or do we have to apply for it?

But isnt the Gov shut down?

Her GC will come in the mail but the SSA is shut down for new numbers, so she won't get a SSN. Once the gov is running she should to to the SSA in person and request a number.

From the SSA site:

"Due to the Federal Government Shutdown, Social Security field offices are open with limited services. Hearings offices remain open to conduct hearings before an Administrative Law Judge (ALJ). Social Security card centers are closed."

"We cannot provide the following services:

1. Issue new or replacement Social Security cards
2. Replace your Medicare card
3. Issue a proof of income letter"

Without this problem fill out those SSA-5 forms, had them signed the bottom and took those personally to my nearest SS office 37 miles with their brand new EAD cards. Took a copy of those cards, handed them back and two weeks later received a probationary card. Could have mailed them in, but a fat chance of never seeing those cards again.

Did the same thing using the same form printed out in my computer, just changing their immigration status and date bringing in their green cards, then again with their certificates of citizenship. Ha, with the later, printed out a beautiful colored copy, wouldn't take that, used their dirty old copying machine for that. But at each time, left with their cards or their certificates. Again, I don't trust the mails

No choice in mailing your certificate of citizenship for a US passport unless you have an airline ticket within two weeks, and in our case, travel 700 miles to the nearest DOS office with an appointment. But we did get those back, a week later in a plain brown envelop with an untraceable first class stamp. 400 bucks to replace these if lost, try and prove that?

This shutdown is caused just by a handful of party leaders, if their subs don't vote their way, won't be around next election. If the Americans have any brains at all, won't vote for these party leaders, and so much for government by representation. Remember this at your civic test questions for citizenship. Ha, but you better answer this question, the way they want you to. Only hurting yourself.
