How do you communicate with your fiance & how often?

My fiance is in Algeria. When we met online, we both had jobs that allowed us the luxury of being able to spend a lot of hours on skype every day. Now we're not able to do that much at all. I'm curious how others are staying in touch with their fiancee's while they're waiting to be together, and how much contact they have between each other.

During my wife's process, we emailed everyday, skype during the weekends, and I also travel to her country every few months (my visits were between 2-4 weeks). It was both expensive in time and money, but ultimately we do what we have to do in order to stay connected with our loved ones.

I did find one way to make communication easier. Facebook text is free, no matter where you live. Texting was so expensive, so I'm glad we found out we can do this at no cost.

Facebook messaging is nice, but Skype is the thing that keeps me positive about the wait. We are still gathering all the paperwork for the K-1 and the fact that we have no idea how long it's going to take doesn't make this easy. Timedifference of 7 hours makes Skyping sometimes challenging, but waiting for Skype is worth it, just to see his face. I just hope this process goes as quickly as possible, the wait is just so..slow.

“The truth is that there are a lot of people like you, us, with strange hobbies or talents or gifts and we try to hide it because we’re afraid that it makes us seem weird or it will turn people off, but that’s a mistake. What makes me unique has brought every person I love into my life.” ~Ned, Pushing Daisies

A friend of mine used to keep her Skype open all day, and he the same. They weren't always talking but she said it felt a bit more like he was there and vice versa, as they got to see what the other person was doing all day... don't know if I could have done that, but hey, whatever floats your boat.

We always had our skype on too, during the first year. Now, due to a change in his work, we talk on skype twice per week for a few hours each time. It's not enough for me, but there's nothing we can do about it. I have a friend who can only communicate with her fiance by letters, with a phone call once per week. That would be so difficult.

Varies depending on how our schedules and how busy we are. We video chat daily, but sometimes we'll only send FB messages in the morning because we don't have time to talk and then we'll have a monster talk at night. Sometimes we just can't get our schedules to coincide so we'll talk five times a day but only in 5-10 minute spurts when we can find time. But our schedule is most commonly morning chat and then evening chat.

We almost exclusively use skype, tango or viber (we have all three apps so if one is running slow we can switch to a different one). But we'll call each other on the phone if one of us is without internet access for awhile.

We're lucky-we both have iphones, our time difference is only four or five hours and he's a night owl, which facilitates the evening chat. We didn't talk as much in our pre-iphone days but the relationship was newer and I was less invested in talking all the time anyway.
