Hello everybody,

I need an answer that will certainly help me make a choice between the K1 and CR1 visa.

Concerning the CR1 visa : can I go to the USA, get married with my fiancé, stay there for 2 weeks, come back to Switzerland and start the process for the visa?

I know I can't go to the USA and get married without a visa, but if I don't stay there and come back to my country and then start the procedure with the immigration, is that possible?

How can we do it? Do we need some kind of documents for my arrival at the airport, for the immigration? Do I just tell them that we get married but I come back to my country, giving some proofs of my tights here?

It's not possible for him to come to Switzerland right now and get married here so we have to get married in the US.

If you've been through this situation, please let me know how you did it!

Thank you!!!!!!!!

Question 1 - YES, it will be difficult to return after your marriage but yes it is possible to do that.

Question 2 - YES, you may go to the US (I am pretty sure Switzerland is on the VWP) and then return to Switzerland after your marriage.

Question 3 - you would travel with strong ties to Switzerland. Just in case it is asked for. Unless they specifically ask, do not tell them you are there to get married. Tell them the truth, always the truth, but unless asked 'will you get married on this trip?" don't volunteer that information.

Good luck

Thanks for your answers! Very helpful!

But for your answer No1, what do you mean by "it will be difficult to retour after your marriage" ?

When leaving the USA after 2 weeks and after getting married, can they know at the airport that we just got married when they will check my passport for my departure??

Since you would be leaving and not staying i don't think they'd really care much.

I'm the beneficiary.

Want to know what's happening with your case? Here's the USCIS tracking page (get an account and see if the case's been 'touched'!). Don't get your hopes up though, some cases never even appear there despite being successfully processed.

It will be difficult emotionally, no one wants to leave their new spouse.

Oh yes, that's for sure!! It's already hard now.... This is why we may just do the K1 visa, so we can stay together after we get married. But CR1 sounds so much better, I could work directly after my arrival in the USA with my visa. That's a big plus though..

But an other question, after the wedding and my return to Switzerland, Immigration won't make any problems about the fact that the wedding has been celebrated in the US? Where do people get married to pursue with the CR1 visa?
