Should I wear a suit to this interview? I didn't plan on turning up in my hoodie and jeans but is it customary/wise to dress professionally? I know all the rules about what to bring along and what not to take in and leave in a safe place/locker, etc. But what about clothing?

I haven't seen this been mentioned in other threads.

I wore black pants, with white and blue shirt + white and blue ballerina shoes and a cardigan.

My husband wore dark jeans + nice shoes + blue shirt.

Dress smart / casual and it's fine. No need for a suit

Its very informal, it's not a sit down interview, you stand at a window like buying a train ticket. They cannot see you below your waist. I wore jeans, open necked short sleeved shirt.

I guess it depends on taste and why you're going. I'd expect students to go in hoodie, jeans and trainers. Businessmen (or the rich) going in with suits.

Me personally? I'll go in a nice black shirt+tie, black jeans and proper shoes. Smart/Casual, as the others have said.

"What's yours is mine!"

My interview is that day too! I'm just going to go for smartish and comfortable, as I'm gonna be a big bag of nerves.

Cool, thanks for the input. As much as I like my suit, I don't like wearing it for too long haha. Smart-casual it is then.

Roll on the 23rd!

It's not even "smart" casual at the embassy. They'd probably not let you in naked, but that's about all I can think they'd care about. The interviewer only sees you from the waist up - it's like talking to a bank teller.

Yeah there were people in tracksuit when i was there.

Although they were probably getting visitor's visas.

I wore dark jeans, a casual top and sneakers. My then fiance wore jeans (the only time I have seen him wear anything but jeans was on our wedding day!), a t-shirt and casual shows.
