'tis the season for them to start coming inside. Fortunately they have a tendency to run in exactly the same pattern that makes a cat go "ooooh! Toyfood!"

With 4 cats, we're good.

The IT manager at a former job got bit on the thigh. He was lucky in that he only had his whole thigh baloon up....and he lost a circle of skin about the size of a 50 cent piece.

So yeah, not the friendliest of household companions.

Sounds a bit like the Brown Recluse.

That's what I thought too, the story says the recluse spiders don't live in that part of the country though.

Hmmm. An acquaintance of mine is also suffering from a spider bite that she received in her bed and it is having a similar effect. She is still in recovery and it is expected to take several months! They haven't identified the spider to her but told her it is like a brown recluse spider bite - although there are not supposed to be any brown recluses in her part of California. I will let her know about the hobo spider - maybe it lives in her area. Not a nice thing at all.

We have brown recluses and black widows here in Georgia. Spiders are my one remaining phobia - I used to not be able to move at all and just shake when I was a child and saw a spider. It isn't so bad now - I can move - and move quickly to kill it - but I still shake uncontrollably for about half an hour afterwards. We do have 5 cats - but black widows and brown recluses can be fatal if they bite a cat so generally, if the cats find a a spider inside I move quickly to kill it and get it away from them just in case. That is why I like the garden spiders here - they are so big that there is no mistaking them for one of the poisonous spiders and I don't have to freak out with worry.

My husband was bitten by a spider a number of years ago and it swelled up and became abcessed. He never identified the spider nor remembers getting bitten, however, the site will become re-abcessed every now and again and go through the same problems he originally experienced when it was first bitten. I don't think the toxin remains but the area suffers some sort of permanent reaction that can be re-affected even if not re-bitten. Not a nice situation at all.

“...Isn't it splendid to think of all the things there are to find out about? It just makes me feel glad to be alive--it's such an interesting world. It wouldn't be half so interesting if we knew all about everything, would it? There'd be no scope for imagination then, would there?”

Peace to All creatures great and small............................................

But when we turn to the Hebrew literature, we do not find such jokes about the donkey. Rather the animal is known for its strength and its loyalty to its master (Genesis 49:14; Numbers 22:30).

If you do a google image search on Brown Recluse Bite its all there in 16 million color, 80ox600 resolution. Best not be eating when you look at it - its extremely nasty.

It reminds me when my hubby was bitten on the lower part of the leg by a black widow few months ago, jeez he turned totally weak and his skin got purple and black, that was scary indeed and it took him about a month to recover.
