to rephrase the question as mentioned above ""and after you get married, go to the nearest USCIS and inform them you just got married,". It is mentioned that to inform the nearest USCIS about the marriage, so my question is "Is this required?".

That is what the AOS does. You submit your Marriage Certificate so you go from a non-immigrant alien to an immigrant alien and receive the GC. So you do not go to the nearest USCIS office and informt them you got married, you file the I-485 and that does the same thing. Until you file the I-485, you cannot become a LPR. I would say it is not required to inform the local office (we did not), but it is required to file the I-485 at some point so the beneficiary can become a LPR.

I myself would be confused after reading that link.....mentioning to go to the nearest USCIS. I guess we always have an option to ask for others opinionidea9dv.gif .
