Hi Guys,

I had my interview for AOS and all went great.... except for the fact that the Doctor did not fill out my medical form correctly! In fact, he filled it out so badly that she could not approve us on the spot and sent me a RFE. All of which is fine and I should be able to sort that out.

My problem is that my Driver's License is obviously only valid for the length of my J1 visa, and both expire in early November. At my interview, I didn't think to ask the Officer if there was some way to extend my DL in case everything didn't get sorted out in time for my DL renewal.

Has anyone had any experience in a situation like mine? Can you use EAD or approval of I-130 to renew DL?

Thank you so much for any advice!

What documents can be used to renew a license vary from state to state. Check the laws for your state's DMV.

~ Moved from AOS from Family Based Visas to Moving Here and Your New Life in America- topic is not about an immigration process but renewing DL ~

I did check the TN license requirements online, they only list the required documents for US citizen and Permanent resident to get license renewed. When I had my J1, the helped organize the documents for the license. I thought I would ask here if anyone had any idea before I wait in line at the DMV!

Thanks QuennE, I may just try with my EAD.

In most states the EAD can be used to get a license that lasts as long as the EAD does, then you can return to get the non-temporary DL once you receive your green card and are a permanent resident. You can call your local DMV and ask them exactly what you would need to bring before going there to stand in line.
