Interview scheduled... how screwed are we?

We got an interview date for October 28th!

If only I could be excited about this. I wasn't expecting the interview to be that soon, but it was the latest date open at the time. The problem is: I'm still unemployed. I've been back in the US for 3 months now, and I've only had a couple job interviews, despite the dozens of resumes sent out. There is zero chance of me getting a job offer in the next two weeks.

In the meantime, my (divorced) parents have both agreed to sponsor my fiancee and they're gathering all the documents for that. Will that be enough? Is there any explanation we can give Guangzhou that will help them be sympathetic to our situation?

As long as your parents are 125% above the poverty line including all dependents and your fiance it's fine. That is, if China allows co-sponsors for the K-1, many consulates do not. Hopefully someone will be long soon to clear that up. Good luck, unfortunately the job market still sucks. It took my husband 10 months to find a job in his field and it's only an intern position.

Guangzhou allows cosponsors for K-1. You just need to make sure you have a ton of documentation for your co-sponsors finances to prove they are 125% or more above poverty line. I've heard several cases of people not having enough financial documentation for co-sponsors. I'm sure Darnell or someone else on here can provide more specifics.

I am with Daveykins. Also have your co sponsors get a verification of employment letter from their employer and current pay stubs

If you think you have enough documentation, bring more! It's all up to the VO to decide, and not having enough with put your case into AP and cause delays.

Yeah, we've been working on gathering all that info for a month now. Pay-stubs, bank statements, tax forms, the works. If all goes to plan, she should have the originals in her hand at the end of next week.

Just trying to help make your case - job hunting is GOOD. Especially when you can show you've had some helpful leads. If you can show the CAPACITY to support your fiance while in the U.S. - well, they're required to look at the overall picture, NOT just the bottom line on your Affidavit of Support

Be careful about offering too many explanations - explanations have to tendency to come across as excuses.

Thanks for the advice; I'll keep that in mind, and try to coach my fiancee on how to present that information. As it turns out, since I posted I have found some strong possibilities that could have me working before her interview (though no pay stubs yet), but they're all part time and would put me below the poverty line. Not even close to the 125% of the poverty line that is required. Still, it shows that I'm actively trying to find work and I have the support of my family. Hopefully that will be enough.
