Pssh, my mother grew up in Queens and she only had two outfits too! She got hand me down shoes with holes in the front.

I didn't have it so well growing up either. All my clothes were hand me downs, but I did get new shoes. I wouldn't have minded the hand me downs so much if my older brother had better taste in clothes. The ones he got teased about wearing, were the ones I mainly ended up with. He kept the better ones until he wore them out. By the time I was 11, I had a paper route and started buying my own clothes. I've been working ever since to. My wife started working young to, selling brooms door to door after school and has worked ever since. I may not have had it as hard as my wife, but our lives have some interesting parallels which make us pretty compatible.

So, the Big guy and I decided that we're gonna start weaning away from the reliance on the other guy.....and start to have someone else take over his duties. I hope the loser starts to see that we've begun to look for a replacement for him. May be he'll get the hint.....

And I didn't even have to say anything....

So I've been painting outside all day on what maybe the last good day to do it and shaking my head that we let a *former* family friend paint the house two years ago. It is awful! Mind you the stuff I scraped and repainting 3 years ago still looks fine. He totally painted over rot and didn't prime right. This is on my list of things I will only do myself from now on.

My ex made me hire her father to paint our house once. Hiring family can be worse than hiring a family friend. At least the ex had to live with it, as she kept the house and I kept most of my retirement funds in the divorce.

Gonna let the Polish guy take over?

eh - for 'family inclusion' - if it wasn't one of 4 cousins trained by my father, then I won't get engaged for building stuff with family. Why? My father taught us all sorts of stuff, nothing we've built together has fallen down.

We had a guy do a cement slab for us. We leveled the ground, that took a lot of work and I'm dam good at leveling. But his slab is not level and he did a broom finish he swore it would not be rough, it would be barely noticeable well it is not. I hate the brush finish more the the evenness of the slab. I like to be able to go out there barefoot, but it's way to rough for that. So now I'm going to have to smooth it myself,( well make my husband do it as I will still be pregnant). Been looking into different things trying to figure out the best method.

The worse part is he does this for a living.

Yeah, tell me about it. My uncle, who was a professional painter, did paint our house once and that was fine.... but other family, no good. You get taking advantage a lot as a single mother or even when my dad was drunk. These painters they hired to do our house many many years ago actually painted one side a different color grey than the other and we didn't even notice for years until we went to go repaint! It also all started coming off in like 2 months, but my parents won a small claims settlement against them for it.

I don't get what is up with tradesman and contractors not doing a good job. Sometimes it is really magical, but a lot of the time, I'm left thinking...I really could have done better myself. My husband is a perfectionist and wouldn't let stuff like that slide, but I'm not sure how that works out on a business end. We had an incredibly talented carpenter work in our house once, but he took forever...and I can see people being too cheap to want to pay for all the man hours.

Could you pour one of those self levelling concretes or put down those thin patio flagstone or something (I'm assuming it is outside)?

Our new offer came in today. They are only putting 3% down on their mortgage. That is weird, right? Or is it just a FHA thing?

I would study the mortgage-issuing entity before accepting wink.png

I really hope that both realtors and this new buyers don't think that As-Is and FHA loans can exist together....

*face palm*

I'm just thinking of the list of things to get to FHA ready and there is no way!
