Serpentine belt chewed up.....one of the pulleys is vibrating. Bearings shot. May be the power steering pump. what was it that you just had replaced? The tensioner and the what? what size engine? In the case of my Yukon, there are 2 tensioners, upper and lower. 1 is for the serpentine, and one is for the AC compressor. But if it gets louder around turns, it's steering pump related.

Glad that Steveklarette Jr. is nonfeverish. Mini-B. went back to preskool today for the first time in ages, wee man. However, Mrs. T-B. now claims to be sick. If she's sick enough to be bedbound, then I can call the rubias.

The serp belt was rather old. It and its tensioner were replaced yesterday. The tensioner was quite expensive because it's attached via brackets to the intake. Good old GM design.

Water pump was replaced a couple of months ago. Radiator was replaced in February.

3.8-L engine.

Mechanic noted yesterday that the A/C compressor was wet (haven't run the A/C in a few days).

A/C has its own drive-belt, I think.

Noise does get louder on turns. If fluid dipstick reads full, is power-steering pump bad?

Knew that I should've bought the extended warranty for longer, sigh man.

rubias!!! been a long long time since I was with a rubia. But given I'm a blonde, does that make a rubio?

Noise from power-steering pump when full indicates its most likely going bad. But you can run those things bad for a long time. You just have to turn the radio up louder and they work fine, until they don't. Is it getting harder to turn the wheels when you're not moving?

Why do people come up to you, when you're obviously working, say "I know you're busy", then comes the "But" and continues to go on and on and on when you're obviously in the middle of working on something with other people no less? After his first "But", the guy comes backs with two friggen more. All when me and another guy have our hands all over a machine trying to figure out how to fix a mechanical cluster F@#$K design that the mechanical engineer keeps ignoring. And while the dam thing is running to. Next time he's on the phone and I need to talk with him, maybe I should just pull the plug on it.

rant over

And yes I'm feeling pissy today.

many- test to see if noise still exist

1. Si, man.

2. I called several service advisors at dealerships today. I should probably take it to a dealer for diagnosis, then take it back to my mechanic. Not hard or harder to turn the wheels when stopped, no man.

I agree with Steven on what to do now.

Iffen you don't want to turn up your radio, I'd go with Steve's approach.

You power steering pump is the most likely culprit of the noise, as it goes up when you turn. They usually take a very long time to go completely bad. First some noise, then later its tougher to turn when not moving, then it starts getting tougher to turn while moving slow, until finally it no longer works at all and manual steering would turn easier. Its still possible its a bearing on any of the devices running by belt, but the higher noise while turning really points to the power steering pump.
