basement? hahahaha - 3 to 4 feet above sea level - no way.

Our basement is below sea level and it is a walk out. We actually rented a house on the ocean here - first floor sea level, basement obviously below. Miraculously this house survived Sandy and Irene just fine despite waves over the roof, but houses without basement or really really sturdy stilts.... not so well.

In other gripping news: Have already emptied the dishwarsher and subdued 4 laundry loads ("many," in Polish).

Will venture downstairs a final time to see whether cat has awakened or is still sprawled on the couch, looking like an exploded pillow. She was inadvertently ensconced in the linen closet for a couple of hours today. She's not particularly talkative and is quiet when she does express herself. I heard a couple of faint mius but couldn't identify where from. The linen closet was the last in the "diagnosis by exclusion." She was not particularly upset and appeared neither in need of her litterbox nor to have used alternative facilities, no and no and no man, oj nie.
