Yea I can see that you're doing good. But if you don't mind me asking, how long we're you married?

There's no stipulation that the house is to be sold at a certain point and the gains to be divided? Which is the norm.....

Hey you coulda dyed your hair ya hippified geez.....

I was married for 26 years, but we'd been separated the last 11 of them, or what it 13 of them? I forget exactly. When we had a second kid, my ex pretty much turned into a nut case. Not that we had the best marriage before that, but it was tolerable.

Giving her the house is how I kept most of my retirement accounts! She was the one that wanted to buy that house, I never really liked it actually. We split assets 50/50 in the divorce, which is the expected result in this state. We were both pretty young and had nothing when we got married. As to selling and splitting the gains on the house, I would have to be sure she didn't loose the dang thing, something I wasn't confident she'd do. And I also wanted my name off the mortgage. I know she refinanced it, and went on a huge spending spree afterwards, so I've no idea what type of financial shape she's currently in.

Oh that paints a clearer picture. You were married for a long time man.....wow......

And it looks like you didn't do too bad compared to some of my friends.....

A number of years ago, Minnesota passed a law making divorce pretty fair. Everything is pretty much split 50/50 unless parties involved brought in significant assets at the beginning. Then they keep those assets, but share any gains. Short marriage = little to split, long marriage = more to split. But always its 50/50. Child care is done on some complicated system that assumes both parents pay support. Cost to raise the child is figured based on combined gross, time with each parent, and what percentage of the total gross income each party makes. Its really pretty fair, but can leave the primary custodial parent paying support to the weekend parent. As to custody, 50/50 custody is assumed unless one party gives it up. It just seems crazy to me with parents driving across town to drop off and pick up the kids from school. Alimony is frowned upon, as each is expected to support themselves. When given its because one has been out of the work force and they need to transition back. Its almost always temporary. It doesn't matter what their lifestyle was before the divorce, if one makes a million a year and the other lives as a minimum wage worker, then they get to live as a minimum wage worker unless they better themselves.

I know many a couple where one party thought they deserved it all or most and fought heavily in court for it. Bang down comes reality, and they get 50%.

Do you Marklars rinse off the brine after brining el turkey?

Or roast as is?

I don't cook turkey, so I've no idea what the best way is. We follow the Native American tradition on Thanksgiving and move out of our home, go hungry, while we huddle in blankets inoculated with the small pox virus for the day.

went shopping super early this morning, dropped off a 2 hams and 3 frozen turkies with my chinese aunties krewe. we're cooking tonight, unsure of whose kitchen yet... I'm just hoping my sous chef understood, to let the turkey thaw today.

Two turkeys we're baking, the third will be deep fried. It's gonna be a late night, but I don't care - I've a corner to sleep on.
