I think most of us have perfectly matched relationships, were we always agree on everything and focus on separately desired but perfectly synchronous goals. Then we wake up and wonder how our spouse could not exactly match that dream. rofl.gif

Whoopie pie. You call him pumpkin?

Reference the old Newlywed game, might be giving away my age, or era, or something.

Maybe there are, but they're all married or gay, which is why you also chose a spouse from another country. I pay my ex more than the required child support, just so I don't have to deal with her. Unfortunately the ex uses the lions share of that money on herself, from what I can see. The ex is going to have a serious lifestyle transformation when the child support ends in not that long. So am I, but mine's going to be for the better.

My father had to pay child support until I was 21! I was married and expecting a child at that point. Crazy, right?

For right now it is $220/month and I could be mean and petition the court for what he could be making with his degree because there is an exception to the income based, especially if the guy is intentionally earning less than he should be. However, I'm nice and gave him a chance to give it to me on his own, which never happened, and to pull his life together, which also never happened. The way I figured it was that we were married and trying when I got pregnant and he promised at the time to support me forever. My daughter shouldn't have to suffer for the lies. $220 a month covers her food in essence as she is a picky eater and I do want her to eat healthy. It would be nice to get more so she could go to summer camp or ice skating lessons or whatever, but it is what it is.

Steve, I think it is actually more like 21% in our case and the Colorado charts fluctuate the percentage based on the income, so someone who makes 20k a month pays only 9% for the first child.

I'm paying over a grand, but I can see very little goes towards my younger daughter, as she rarely gets new clothes. I also discovered at the end of last year that she didn't have the calculator she's supposed to have for her high school algebra class. Ends at age 18 or after high school graduation, whichever comes last. As I mentioned, I pay over the required amount, so if the ex attempts to ever ask for an extension on it, you know how well that will fly. She also has to go to mediation for any changes, not court, where I can bring up hiding retirement accounts and hiding income during the divorce. All of which I have evidence of, and all of which will not look good in any extension request. At the time I just wanted to get the divorce done and over with and make damn sure she could never come back at me for anything. She signed off on the divorce agreement, I'm sure thinking she got over with what she was hiding and just happy to have those extra dollars per month. And I got piece of mind knowing she couldn't bring anything back up successfully.

She got part of my retirement accounts, the house and all liquid assets. I was very cash poor when I got out of it, but most of my retirement accounts were intact. I've never really recovered from the cash poor end, as buying a house and getting married with immigration cost has been rather tough on the budget when you add in the child support. I'm not hurting though, I live a fairly decent lifestyle.

I dig that checkered jacket you were wearing professor....

I'm a long haired pale blond, not a one of them even resembles me.

Yea I can see that you're doing good. But if you don't mind me asking, how long we're you married?

There's no stipulation that the house is to be sold at a certain point and the gains to be divided? Which is the norm.....

Hey you coulda dyed your hair ya hippified geez.....

Yes high school, not college. I wrote the divorce agreement, and this was a legal stipulation to make under Minnesota law at the time. As I was explaining all the terms, I don't think the ex could get past the higher child support number, payout and happiness of thinking she got away with hiding some things. She's never been on my back to ask for more, and she shouldn't. I'll slam her good if she ever attempts it to. I was more than fair, while she was being deceitful.

It is higher for lower income for the obvious reasons and it would be even higher if she was disable or the such like.

My mother received less than 17% of the income for child support in New York and I was the first child. Thank goodness for him because they had another 4 to pay on as well. #2 wife was complaining that it was our fault they got less, but since my mother never asked for an increase from 1989 and it wasn't tied into income percentages without asking the court to re-evaluate, she was maybe only getting like 5%. It is very likely she was getting more than my mother.
