Lack of confidence is always a problem especially with languages....I can't speak french to save my life because of one jerk in Paris who mocked me over my french speaking skills (and that was 15 years ago...)....mind is a ####### sometimes.

Oh hey...how about ...if she doesn't understand someone at some point, she could pretend they are speaking her own language..that way it is a matter of just not hearing right not a matter of understanding another language ? Trick the mind so to speak....not sure If i am making sense.

I do hope she gets over that fear/worry cause she sounds like a very capable and intelligent woman. smile.png

ps: lunch in the oven...vegan noodles and veggies

Her English ability is fantastic. People here are shocked when they hear how short a time she's been in the USA, because she speaks so clearly and has a larger vocabulary than the typical native English speaker. I think the problem comes in is she gets nervous when speaking with others besides me. Then she thinks about translating back and forth from her birth language, and that slows her down. With me she doesn't worry about it, so she thinks in English as she's speaking with me. I know she thinks in English now, because when she talks in her sleep, its always English now. But as soon as she's nervous, she over thinks and jumps to translating back and forth, thinking in her native language again. All I can do is wait for her to gain confidence in herself, so she doesn't get nervous about it.

I think it will just take more time. The Dane was thinking half in English before we even met and it is actually easier for him than Danish.

Actually, I do remember with the Swede many many years ago that it took a while for him to not be embarrassed by his accent. Maybe that is part of the problem?

Ooops, I meant to post this

For the record, they are speaking a lot of gibberish and it is making fun of Danish for Norwegian tv.

When I was single and had to go to potluck functions, I would simply bring a pound bag of peanut M&Ms. Everyone was delighted, and there were no leftovers to take home, si and no M.

My wife has finally decided what direction she wants to go with a job here. She wants to get back to working with numbers, book keeping, accounting, loan sharking, whatever... She's been working with mortgages since she's got here, and shes bored with it. I don't know how numbers can be more exciting, but to each her/his own, I'll support her efforts to make a change. Funny thing is her work loves her and is grooming her to move up the ladder. As she's too modest for her own good at times, she refuses to see this, or maybe she does and she's afraid of moving up?

I for one, am very proud of Juna. And hope she develops that specific personality that is required to move up that ladder.

Modesty is good. Confidence is required. 2 different things.....Then there is competence......

Well, IMO, you shouldn't have to ask - it is called a joint account. We set one up as soon as we could. We only ask each other if it is a big purchase or something unnecessary. Part of being married is having joint finances, the Dane doesn't pay for things, "we" do.

Tiff and I have 1 joint account. It has a few thousand in it. It was to show joint finances (along with other supporting documents).

I would NEVER EVER dare to have a real joint account with Tiff........are you outta yo mind?

Random pieces of pig, not necessarily the meat parts

Two immigrants to the U.S., just off the boat, walked the streets of New York City. They marveled at all that they beheld in their new country, and they discussed their lives to come. "I have heard that Americans eat dogs," one said. "Strange," said his friend, "but if we are to be Americans, we must do as the Americans do."

Just then, they came upon a hot-dog vendor on the corner. "Two dogs, please!" the hungry immigrants said. The vendor, only too happy to oblige, handed them two orders wrapped in aluminum foil. The immigrants raced to a park bench, sat down, and eagerly began unwrapping their "dogs."

The first immigrant looked at his order and paused in shock. After several seconds of stunned silence, he murmured to his friend, "What part did YOU get?"

Not exactly. My husband had never lived outside his parents home and doesnt have a good enough job to actually save for a house or an apartment so when I have a job the plan is for me to rent a place for us and then see how we do after I build up credit. I do not know if I can save up enough on my own to get a house for us so I don't think so. smile.png

As for jobs...I was working in higher ed. aka program manager for MBA in humanitarian logistics and management and i am looking to stay in higher ed. There is not a lot of programs like that but there are international recruiter jobs, program coordinators etc. so hopefully.... the program I worked for was american essentially only in Switzerland and all of my education is from either US institutions or US accredited. *fingers crossed*

do what every American grad student does when they can't find a job. Go teach :)

There are several ways to buy a house with low to no down payment. The Skipper and I, may be Nola, are highly qualified to guide you to the right path, and answer your questions. When the time comes.

I know it should be this way but with us it is a bit different. At the end he has a low paying job like 2k a month (no GED cannot get better job) and since he is not used to paying for anything and always keeping his entire pay check (except the occasional payments he made on bills or take outs he paid for when his parents did not want to cook, and he doesn't drive so not even that) ...it feels really like a whole lot for him if i spend 50 bucks every 2 weeks on food. I still give him 20 to make it less of a burden on him. Granted...that will not last much longer, I got 80 bucks left lol

You know how you meet people for a reason.....I am here to teach him about independence and he is here to teach me that sometimes asking for help is fine. I think.

How old is he if you don't mind me asking? Don't be exact.........

1) I have made Zucchini bread

2) My stupid Chrome has no idea what "zucchini" is and keeps telling me I'm spelling it wrong.

1) If one begins that job but stops 50% of the way through, does that make it a half-baked idea?

2) Is that a zucchini in your pocket, or are you happy to see me?
