When I was a youngster, there was a period of time when they were not protected. I found one that had fallen out of a nest and abandoned by the parents. Well more likely the younger one pushed out by its sibling so the sibling could grow strong at the expense of the younger back up egg. Shortly after they were protected again, but I had already been in contact with the DNR so they knew mine was grandfathered in when protections were put on them. The second one I got from another person who had it, but he ran into a little trouble with the law and wasn't going to be around for a few years. That one was also obtained before they were protected. I did occasionally get someone reporting me and officials showing up wanting to take them away, then I'd point out the history, giving the exact dates they were obtained and when the law protecting them came up, and say look it up at the DNR, they know about these owls, so they'd leave and never return. One died of something one winter, and the other I reverted back to the wild. For a long time I supported that one by feeding her a few times a week, then less and less over time. But for a couple years I could go out and call her and she'd come flying in, even after I stopped feeding her. Finally she found a mate, and no longer came to my calls. But when I would go to her nesting site, I could still tell she remembered me, as she was never nervous if it was just me there.

Well, today (Saturday) is the 8th anniversary of having lost Papa T-B., and his namesake, Mini-B., is currently very sick. He's had a fruity cough with runny nose for the better part of 2 weeks. Mrs. T-B. took him to the doc today, and the doc prescribed him an inhaler-type thing but no real medicine. Now, he's running a fever of 102 to 103 F. Fortunately, the closest clinic had a cancellation for tomorrow at mid-morning. Doesn't look like I'll be doing early GSs, but I wasn't very enthusiastic about it anyway, what with this lousy weather that's here to stay, no man.

Will prep for bed. Will see whether Mrs. T-B. wants "shift duty" in putting cold rags on Mini-B.'s head. He just got some ibuprofen, so perhaps he's knocked out. Zzz, wee man.

Doesn't translate well. "Apple slices" is not quite what it is, it is like pancake balls that traditional have apple slices in them, but many times don't.

Sorry to hear about the loss of your father and the wee one being sick. You can also try cool/ cold baths. I had to do that once when my daughter's fever got high. It did seem to help.

cool baths for 105 and up. Not for 102-103.......

I barely give my kid advil or tylenol at that temp....

as long as she's not lethargic....she's fine.

I am sorry to hear that, si man. I hope your little one feels better soon, it sucks to be sick. I hear also cooler towel on forehead helps with fever and the baths that are not hot. Good luck !

Also, have a prospective job lined up! It's for the city government, too, so the benefits are pretty good, and the pay is much more than I was getting at my last job - as in more than double. Fingers crossed for me!
