Tonight for dinner is a mash of parsnips, carrots, and potatoes and paprika pork (done sort of goulash style). Should be interesting.

Good God, woman! Men did not claw their way to the top of the food chain to eat vegetables, no man.

Mrs. T-B. made a good dinner tonight, but it got oversalted (see how we protect the wife from unfair blame, even though she did it), and it bit me verrrrry hard in the stomach, Pepto Bisman.

This ^^^ is probably the strongest justification for divorce and deportation in any international marriage, grrr man. Early in our marriage, Mrs. T-B. would move bills from the kitchen table (where they belong, if the husband says so) and throw them in a box. I had to sweet-talk some creditors out of late fees a few times, fee man.

Dinner tonight was no good. The Dane picked out some new recipes to try, the root mash was too bland for him, just right for my mother (she had many helpings), and made me puke all night. The pork was also not a hit. This is why I pick out new recipes to try.

I've spent two days trying to get this guy to calm down, its just not happening. I don't know who the heck abused this dog until it was crazy, but it appears the dog is not going to have a future because of it.

My friend and I had a joint birthday party on Sunday. Harry Potter themed. We made wands, drank Butterbeer and dressed up as our favorite characters.

sidenote: started doing my exercises in house since I cannot afford gym (damn you work...or lack thereof) and moving around with three dogs following you is hard. Two dogs got punched, kicked and almost layed on. They are now snoring away peacefully.

That was a great movie!

Being a layman, I can only offer what little I know, the control center of the ship is called the bridge. Someone always must have command on the bridge. When the captain leaves the bridge, someone is given authority to make the decisions in the captain's absence. This is announced by the captain before he leaves. Upon returning the the bridge, the captain automatically gets authority back, the "Captain on the Bridge" is the formal announcement of that change in authority back to the captain.

I'll let the navy vet correct any mistakes I made from my layman's view of it.

OK, I've got some questions to you Marines.

Sorry in advance for my poor/wrong naming or anything, but I'm not too familiar with the US Army and all. I hope you'll forgive me my ignorance.

So... yesterday I saw "Captain Phillips". IMHO it was brilliant (and Tom Haks should get an Oscar for that movie IMHO). There was USS Bainbridge there and every time when the captain of that ship walked into the main room, I don't know what's the proper name for that - it's the room when there are some computers, screens with the Marines looking and checking things on the sea. So every time the captain walked into that room, one of the Marines announced: "The captain on he bridge" (or at least I think these were the words).

What's the point of announcing it? So the rest of the crew would act professionally and appropriate?

Long before there were PA systems.....

When the Captain of a ship leaves the ship, a whistle blows and a cry "Departing" is let out to let the crew know that the Captain is not on the ship. And that the First Officer is in charge. When he returns, a different whistle blows, or the whistle is blown in a different way, and the word "Arriving" is cried out to let everyone know that the Captain has returned.

For the same reason, when the Captain of the ship is on the bridge, the words "Captain on the Bridge" is said, to let everyone know that The Skipper is here, that he's in command of the Bridge.

The Bridge, is the room of the ship where the Helm is located.

But with today's communications technology. The Captain is always in charge. But these Naval traditions will long continue.

There are many many Naval traditions that are quite interesting.

Such as, did you know that the 21 gun salute originated from the US Navy? (google it)
