hi all,

I recently got my EAD, I got my card in the mail on Dec 8, 2006. This morning we been to SS Office to change my last name to my married name. Apparently, they cannot do any modification since the Immigration & Naturalization Office has NOT change or UPDATE my name. Whats so irrational about it, is that, the INS got my married name on my Work Permit. I immediately verified it with the INS Hotline and they seems to blame it with the SS Office Computer System. And says "The SS Office has NOT updated theyre files yet".

Now I cannot apply for a new card for my married name since SS reference for INS is obviously not updated yet. Anybody here had the same experience?

hi babeth

yes kaffykat has had the same problem about getting her SSN ...she also got the run around that USCIS hasnt updated ...so its SSA huh...pass the buck i reckon...

keep trying to get it updated some of them are really hopeless from previous posts in there and from my previous exp with them over here...

at least if you have to show the SSN card to anyone you have your marriage certificate to show them the name change...

good luck

We had the same problem when trying to get my wife's unrestricted SS card. The guy at SSA kept telling my wife that USCIS hadn't updated my wife's name and so her application was on hold. I pointed out that when we applied for her restriced SS card in her married name, their office had granted the application. We had a photocopy of the original card as proof. Finally I went and talked to a supervisor and he made an appointment with both of us. We showed him all of our AOS paperwork including the marriage certificate and he granted the application for the unrestricted card. The process took three months, involved multiple visits to their office, and caused us lots of headaches.

I would ask the SSA office to do a manual verification of your immigration status.
