We had our AOS interview at USCIS. We are a same sex couple and we were asked some basic questions about about each other, but we were asked a lot of questions about other issues. I am posting just in case any same sex couples out there prepping for interviews.

We did have the basic questions:

What is your spouse's birthday?

Where do you live?

Do you rent or own?

Who owns the house/leases the residence?

When did you move in together?

Whose phone number is this?

In addition to these questions, we had questions like:

When did you first know you were attracted to the same sex?

Did you ever date the opposite sex?

Were you ever married before? Apparently, state registered domestic partnerships also count if your state requires you to list them on the marriage certificate. My- I-130 application had to be changed to reflect formerly married - which was confusing since the Federal Govt does not recognize State Registered Domestic Partnerships.

The IO asked about dating history, and how long each relationship lasted

We took all of the listed documents as well as wedding pictures - you may want to bring duplicates of the photos, the IO asked to keep about 8 of our photos. We had all the standard documents like:

health insurance cards

auto Insurance cards

auto registration for jointly held vehicles

bank statements

loan statements

paystub for petitioner

dissolution order of previous domestic partnership

What we were asked for and did not have:

Joint cell phone account statement

College transcripts (AOS from F-1)

Paystubs for beneficiary

We did not receive an approval on site, but the USCIS site read "card production" at one point and now it went back to "decision"

I'm a little surprised they asked

When did you first know you were attracted to the same sex?

Did you ever date the opposite sex?

Do they ask opposite-sex couples those questions?

I agree, this is very strange and irrelevent, and quite discriminatory!

Same thing happened to us. But 5 days later it went back to Card Production (yesterday). Now is when card is in the works. Based on others' experiences we should get another email stating card has been mailed and we should get the tracking number. The last email will let us know card has been delivered. Nothing to worry. Congrats!

Congratulations.

But I am really confused with this process. I actually don't know how or where to start. I don't seem to comprehend the info given. Giving me a brief step by step process of how yours went will be highly appreciated.

thanks for posting those questionnaires..im worried cuz i dont have the my college transcripts..will that affect the approval of my visa? i mean im just worried this is finally our chance to be together and i dont want to ruin it smile.png

I don't think it is a reason for denial, but I am sure that it depends on the situation. My husband was here in the US as an international student using an F-1 (international student visa). Since he was here for the purpose of getting an education, they wanted his transcripts for proof that he actually attended school here while here on a student visa.

Good luck, and best wishes with your interview!

Hi there, my partner and I are a same sex couple as well, and we had our interview on the 22nd of October, so I thought I would add our experiences to this thread as well.

We did use the services of an attorney as we wanted to make sure all went well, and they were very good, specializing in same sex immigration here in Los Angeles.

We had our interview scheduled for 1:15 PM, and were not called until almost 4. According to our attorney the person doing the interview was new to the job and was going quite slowly.

I am the USC, and I met my now husband while I was working in London. We have been together since 2003 and got married here on the 1st of July, so while we were newly married we have been together going on 11 years. For some reason the IO decided to interview us separately, and my husband went into the room along with the attorney, while waited in the waiting area.

After about 15 minutes they came back to get me and I was sworn in and answered some real basic questions:

Where did I work

What time did I leave for work

What did I do for work

What do I drive

What colour is it

What does my husband drive

What color is it

That was pretty much the end of the interview. The IO stated that he wanted my husband to get some paperwork from the school he was attending, as he was here on an M1 visa. Our attorney questioned that request as it would not matter in the adjustment of status petition. As I stated the IO was relatively new at this, and we were also the first gay couple he has interviewed, and our attorney asked him to go check with the chief IO about the necessity of getting paperwork from the school. So the IO escorted us back to the waiting area and asked us to wait while he checked with his boss, and after about 15 minutes he came back and said our petition was approved and handed us an approval letter which stated the green card would be sent within 60 days.

I have been waiting for the case statuses to update, which of course they haven't as yet, so we are just waiting now to either get the card or have the website update the status. One problem with having to wait is that we would like to go off on a honeymoon as I have been saving up my vacation time from work, but don't want to schedule any trips out of the country until we get his green card. We looked into going the infopass route, but they seem to have a problem as well stating that no appointments are available..

So that is our story, now just have to chillax until it comes I guess.

Hello thank you for posting your interview experience just wondering where was it done (which state)?

we sent our I-130+AOS+AED+AP packet last March 24, USPS confirmed delivery on March 26, so now the waiting begins

i wonder if it will be harder if the interview will be done in a very conservative state like Texas

Hey guys.

I was just wondering if you could help me relax. I came over on a k1 visa and got married on the 12th April 2014 to a same sex husband. We only had a very small marriage as my family could not make it over. We are planning on having a ceremony next year with all my family, all his family and all our friends.

I have been with my husband for over 3 years now. I am just wondering what are the reasons they would deny the AOS. We are sending our change of status package off tomorrow with all forms. I hope everything goes well and I am confident all is fine as we recieved our K1 with no issues but just want to double check with people who are going/ have gone through the process.

Hope everyone has an amazing visa journey :D

Hi we had our interview yesterday and everything seemed to be ok. The IO is candid and just asked us basic questions like "how did you meet" and then continue with follow-up. My wife and I talked about our long courtship and showed all the pictures. She asked for our bills, bank accounts, insurances. We gave it to her and in the end she handed us an interview results that they cannot complete the AOS yet and have to review the application. So, I'm getting all paranoid about it now since I feel like we have said too much or something....but I couldn't think of something that may have caused the further review status.. My wife has been out-of-status for 11 years and has pending sponsorship from her employer and her mom (a green card holder)....so i'm wondering if this is something that could affect the approval. :( Please provide some thoughts since I haven't been sleeping too well
