You only needed to send a copy with the application, and bring the original to the interview. You can get another certified copy from your court house, or department of vital statistics, or where your locality keeps records like this.

OUR TIME LINE Please do a timeline it helps us all, thanks.

Is now a US Citizen immigration completed Jan 12, 2012.

khool,

You shouldn't need to, or a photocopy either. But there's always the possibility that the marriage certificate that you've already submitted has gone missing from the file - USCIS does lose things from time to time.

Yes, well you should have done that in the first place. Given that however, I guess a photocopy will do. Why on Earth would you send your only copy of your marriage license to USCIS though?

YuAndDan and dr_lha,

Just out of curiosity, where did khool write that he sent his only certified copy of the marriage certificate and does not have another copy available?

He may not have another copy, but he has not written anything that would indicate so.

well said! Posts on here ALL OVER VJ that we need to send a certified copy with AOS (which costs me a whopping $2). When the actual form says only 'copy'.

I spent the $2 & it's well worth it to me.

 VJ guidelines says it all ..... send copy and make copies of all you've sent for processing (in case they mailed you RFE bcos they've lost some of your documents you've sent already). Also, original will be needed to be shown in time of interview.

Goodluck!

Certified copies can be easily had from our town clerk for nominal cost. I will go ahead and get another one since I can't seem to get a consistent answer.

Basic English comprehension and logic Yodrak. If he had another original copy, why would he not just bring that to the interview instead of asking if a photocopy was OK?

I think that would be best.

The point is, the ORIGINAL MARRIAGE DOCUMENT is on file with the county. All anyone ever gets is copies, be it certified or not.

Has anyone ever said to send a certified copy? I've always told people to send a copy of the certified marriage certificate.

Fine for you if you can get a certified copy quickly and cheaply, but for me getting extra certified copies takes weeks and costs more than $2. Why bother with that when USCIS forms clearly state that they don't want original documents, only copies.

Regardless, USCIS doesn't want the "certified copy" itself, just a photocopy of it.

Cost tons, no. More than a photocopy, yes. For the record it took 4 weeks for the registrar's office to send me the certified copy, so yes it can take weeks. Depends on the office.

your arrogance is disgusting.

Yawn.
