Ok, so we have a friend that came over on a K1 visa, she now has gotten married and ready to do the AOS..(err I think that is what it is called) and the Civil Surgeon's document says " Please be advised that the civil surgeon will perform a physical examination which includes visual inspection of your private areas (genitalia and #######). "

Is that common? Seems a little invasive to me.

Thanks in advance.

Well first off, if she already did her medical for a K-1 she doesn't need another medical.

As to the question of genitals, I have seen that some doctors do a quick "peek" and others don't. An immigration medical is meant to be a thorough medical exam.

AOS for my husband

I would find another civil surgeon that doesn't require that... If she came on K1 visa, she doesn't need another medical but if she hasn't completed all her vaccinations she will need to go get that done...and a lot of civil surgeons don't want to do just the vaccination part but instead they want to do the full medical to get more of your money... just find another civil surgeon...

Just for reference, when my fiancee had her overseas medical examination prior to K-1 issuance (she didn't do one for AoS), the doctor took a quick peak down below by stretching open her pants at her waist (she was wearing tights). So it's not like he asked her to take off everything and spread her legs. He did, however, check her breasts for what I assume was breast cancer? Not sure if that was necessary or not, but we didn't fret over it. At the end of the day, he's a doctor.

I believe this is common. Having immigrated to 2 different countries, this has always been the procedure. If you have to do it, just pick a doctor of the same gender.

But they are right, if she did the K1 route, then she shouldn't need to do another medical.

If the K-1 medical was done within a year of filing for AOS, then a new medical not required. They need to call around until they find a civil surgeon that will not insist on a new medical.
