I do not know what they check for, let me make that clear. My statement was only a guess. But honestly that is not a lot of debt, not at all. My guess is, that if they did do some sort of financial background check, they would look for your ability to support your spouse. Income to debt ratio, things like this. See if you have gone bankrupt recently, any international financial concerns or wierd/wack transactions, etc. If you have a solid income, good earnings history, solid job, and reasonable debt ceiling? You should be good to go and pass with flying colors. Honestly if you only owe 2k? smile.png

Personally? I would recommend that you stay on top of your credit rating. Not the free ones. Buy a service every two or three years, from one of the top three firms (i.e Equifax etc) and see what your credit rating is (you can buy one credit service that shows you all three major credit firms). It costs about $35 for a year. Close old accounts (i.e. an old Department Store). Manage your debt (you seem to be on top of that) and your income. If you have a credit score of 600, or 650, or higher? you are good to go. This is my opinion only. My credit varies from 780 to 820 and I think the highest rating is around 850 or 860. That is more just sound financial advice, and none of this is based on any "inside knowledge" or even exterior knowledge of what they are looking for. I am soley basing this on what I have seen from other Federal investigations and background checks.

supposition is best kept to yourself, lest you muddy the waters for people looking for factual information.

I cant edit my post, but if I could, I would add this in...

"During this step, USCIS initiates the background checks of the applicant/petitioner and identifies issues that may need to be addressed either during an interview or by asking the applicant/petitioner to submit additional information or documentation. USCIS reviews the applicant's/petitioner's criminal history, determines if there are national security concerns that need to be addressed, and reviews the application/petition for fraud indicators."

So I didn't say it word for word, I thought that "reading between the lines" was feasible, but I am almost positive that they check for the following at a minimum: State and Federal records, tax history, credit history, etc. It is not "supposition" as you implied. This is basic criteria for a federal background check. Its not just the petitioner they are looking at.

And the NSA does not tap phones either...

Congrats McCaw! It doesn't matter how it get approved, or why it got approved, it got approved. I am happy for you.

I had two trips scheduled for Thanksgiving and Christmas/New Years to go see my wife. I was going for Thanksgiving, coming back for two weeks, and then going back for three weeks over Christmas and New Years. I work at home most of the time and my boss said "why don't you just stay with your wife until after New Years?" I leave for Bogota this Wednesday and return 6 weeks later. Our first Christmas together and she has already decorated the house! smile.png I think I spent too much money this weekend; Nordstroms, Michael Kors, Victorias Secret, Macy's are all laughing their way to the bank this morning! rofl.gif

Thanks, you're right i guess it doesn't matter how it got approved. I was just looking at plan tickets to go back to Manila in March but this changed everything. Hopefully the rest goes smoothly for us. It would be great if she could be here in 6 months or less. I'm right with you on the shopping spree before going to see the wife. I do the same, that cracked me up hahahaha

belief is irrelevant. reading between the lines is unnecessary. read the adjudicator's field manual and the uscis case processing directives. you don't need to guess what they check; it is in black and white. people come to visa journey to clear up misunderstandings and unknowns. offering your exceedingly humble opinion is counterproductive, particularly when the true information is available. they 100% do not pull your credit report.

They like to really take their time in processing our files =(

From my experience, it does take about a week from delivery date for them to notify you

Hello everybody!

I'm writing because I am kind of concerned!unsure.png

I filed my i130 on Oct. 21 using the Express mail Phoenix AZ Lockbox and I have not received any notification yet. I know for sure that they received the package as I checked online and it said "delivered". Do any of you can help me with suggestions? Should I call the Customer Service Center @ 1-800-375-5283

Any other suggestions?

I filed in Oct and mine was transfered to a service center(vermont) instantly.

Only files sent after mid to late October were transferred immediately. All other files were sent directly to the National Benefits Center in Missouri, where they sat and sat while the backlog got bigger and bigger.

Now the transfers are USCIS way of alleviating the backlog and spreading out the workload.

Pretty much, yes. They're not there to give you lie realtime updates on your case, they're there to tell people information they can already find online. If I remember correctly they don't even directly work for USCIS, they're sub-contractors.
