If you mean that shutting down the government for no reason as moving in the right direction then I think your founding fathers would find you ignorant of the entire purpose of the government...as in to govern. Not governing seems to be what your party is best at and it seems to fill the needs of its base. Why, because they told you so.

But go back to your tea party for your opinion. A party started by "grass root" billionaires and filled with willing lemmings marching you all off the cliff.

I have nothing to do with the tea party nor does our Congressman. The same party shut things down for the same reason in '95/'96 and that had nothing to do with the tea party either. It had much to do with a democratic president, senate, and house raising taxes and spending like hell and they got their hand slapped for it. People who show their concern for uninsured by slapping an 80 billion dollar tax on them are stupid people.

Exponential borrowing and spending cannot be sustained. Take your time digesting this little fact.

i don't get it.

They actually drank the tea party kool aid which is why they passed this nonsense to begin with.

I had to show an ID a few weeks ago when i voted

It added about 2 seconds to the process

Yeah, and I can't understand why they have these ramps up to the entrance of buildings. I mean, I can run up the steps in 2 seconds, easy.

Everything in life is so easy when you can't imagine how it is like for someone else.

In each state, there is a large percentage of old and poor people who do not have IDs, and who have immense difficulty in trying to get one, because 1) they live far away from the office, 2) they cannot afford it, 3) they have trouble getting through the bureaucracy of all the forms, or 4) they no longer have all the documentation that the application requires, etc.

Heck you can't buy a six pack without an ID..Come on

Buying alcohol is not a right. State and local governments have full power to arbitrarily ban or severely restrict the buying of alcohol, if they so wanted.

State and local governments cannot restrict your ability to vote. Voting is a right.

That's the difference.

You're delusional.

This country has been blowing your theory out of the water for 230 years and now its suddenly a problem because Fox says so? The country is shut down because of Republican's, that's the bottom line. Currently they are hijacked by the tea party...those are facts. They have no choice but to raise the debt ceiling. If they do not raise it the economy will collapse and implode. That again is another fact. Wanting to see if that happens is not why they were elected.

Yes, they are doing so much for the country right now by not doing anything. Keep believing your fantasy.

The modern conservative is engaged in one of man's oldest exercises in moral philosophy; that is, the search for a superior moral justification for selfishness.

Birth Certificate is accepted.

1. There is zero proof of illegal immigrants voting.

2. Yes, the RIGHT to vote. This stuff is interfering with the right to vote.

1. It's a preventive measure. They've justified it by tying it to welfare fraud.

2. It's interfering with an Illegal's ability to vote.

Please educate me. I read the accusations (made by opponents) but , none offered anything more than rhetoric. Even the Chamber of Commerce - all they provided was accusations. Where's the statistical data backing the accusation(s)?

So if one of these old, poor, etc. people want to say.. I dunno.. Get on a plane? or say marry someone from overseas and bring them here (and please see all the people on this site that need co-sponsors because they are below the poverty level, some in wheel-chairs, some only with disability pay for income)? Funny how if there is a rule in place that requires an ID for something someone really wants they can make it happen.. invalid argument.

As for the extra time or extra cost: This is ridicules. When waiting in line to vote the wait is not to check ID it is for the next voting booth to become available... You separate the line into two: Line one validates voter and shows ID, then proceed to line two and wait for a voting machine... Time added to the process: ZERO. At best you will need one extra volunteer to watch the second line to make sure it never gets beyond a certain size by stopping the first line from proceeding... invalid argument

Just way what you mean: You want people that vote like you do to have no impediments and you don;t really care who/what/when/where as long as you win.

That's called putting you politics ahead of the country.. same ####### the republicans are doing with the shutdown... Just one time I'd like to see someone from the far left on this site actually look at an argument and make a decision not completely on bias.. This is a good issue to do it because the left is totally wrong on this issue.

I don't believe it.. Prove it to me and I still won't believe it. -Ford Prefect

I just read the article. I have to ask, what proof is there that voter fraud is a big problem in this country? Where are the stats to back this up?

IMO, the GOP is trying to eliminate a base of people who won't vote for them.

Pray tell how it would eliminate any base if their is no fraud going on. If there is no problem then nothing would change

Another neighbor you don't get along with? Go figure.

If you were my neighbor I'd hang out and drink beer with you, then poop on your lawn at night and never own up to it.

Yes, really poor people obviously don't travel on a plane (they cannot afford it). But you cannot deny people the vote just because they cannot travel on a plane. I am not making this up. As many as 7% of citizens do not have citizenship documents and as many as 11% do not have government issued photo ID.

I never talked about waiting in line to vote. I was talking about the procedures to get an ID. For example, when Pennsylvania made a voter ID law, many people who didn't have an acceptable ID had to make many trips to the DOT and some still couldn't get the voter ID.

Good point. These cats tend to think of everything in context to their day to day life. Its quite limiting.
