My 2 yrs are nearly up on my CR-1, and my drivers lisence expired on the same date (12-17-2006) Went into the local DMV, brought along proof of residence (utility bill--which they did not ask for) and the I-797 which stated it extends the I-551 (green card) for 1 yr until I wait for further processing of the 10 yr card. lady at the desk was happy with the I-797 and issued me a brand new drivers license which expires Nov 2007!! Cost me a whopping $6.00 My picture on the last card was much better, bad hair day!!

A fellow in front of me on some type of visa wasn't soo lucky. The guy at the front desk said something about his visa not expired yet, thus they couldnt help him till it was expired???????? Didnt make much sense and the fellow left pretty ticked off. Not sure why he didnt ask to speak to a manager.

My Biometrics appt was to be dec 28, but wil still be in Florida, so had to send the original I-797 that had the appt to the Alexandria office asking for a new date. Hopefully wont get lost in the mail. I did photocopy it!!

Commence our 13 -15 hr drive to Florida this weekend, shoul dbe fun!! cat and dog in tow!! lol Went tothe vet and got a few tranquilizer pills to dopey up the cat!! Feel bad doing so,but we wil be downthere for 2 weeks, so I think she would be much happier with us,than at a kennel. have a festive season all

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

Congrats Scott! I am hoping that Derek will have as easy a time next year. I just renewed mine and really hate the photo too. Gotta love the VA DMV, lol.

Have fun in Florida! We are doing the 13-15 hour road trip but in the opposite direction all the way up to Montreal. Leaving the cat in Barton House under the watchful eye of Deborah, the older lady who also watches the front desk. Apparently cat sitting is her real job and we are only going to be gone for a week so it's not going to be too expensive. Good luck with cat road trip. We had one cat who just loved to ride in the car, but all the rest acted like we were ripping their intestines out their nose. Yours should be fine on the kitty downers though and who knows, after all that time in the car she may love road trips too.

Have a great holiday and a safe drive!

I belive I recall Debbie, tall red head. She lived down the hall from us, very nice lady. All the people we know are either going away for xmas, or already have cats, thus Bella is making the road trip! I'm sure all will go well. Not sure what the big plans for Florida are. father in law would be happy to do 36 holes of gold every day. iI would be more than happy to do 36 holes spread out over the next 50 yrs, lol Not sure if we wil do any of the amusement parks as the crowds can be crazy!! Hopefully take in a Tampa NHL game. I'm more thna happy to just chill!

Montreal will be nice, except for the french people!!! Just kidding have a good drive up.
