Any Issues for Fiance and Kids flying to USA thru Guam?

Hello,

I had thought United Airlines had a good flight for early to mid January 2014 for my Fiance and two young kids ages 7-9 that went through Tokyo back in August but now when I check the prices have doubled with this path. United still has flights through Guam but I thought I had read USA entry can have issues with K1 if they fly through Guam first. Is this true?

I'm trying to make her POE as easy as possible since kids are with and to leave enough time to process and catch next flights. The final destination is Minneapolis, MN (MSP) any other flight ideas or airlines? She is starting from Zamboanga but I'm prety sure no International flight will depart from Zambo so Manila will be the departure City.

She will fly to Manila with the kids and her Brother to help in early November for Medical, CFO, and Embassy interview and stay for 12 days. Medical will be 8 days before embassy interview and plans for a CFO in between. I hope and pray all can be done but I do know we need to make time in Manila on her departure to get the CFO stickers and make extra time for this.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Brad

Actually I think it will makes things easy flying through Guam, they will do Immigration's (POE) in Guam, don't have to deal with luggage in Guam, then at their next U.S. stop they will collect their luggage and pass through customs and recheck their luggage if they have another connecting flight..

Flying into Minnasnowda in November.... she has my sympathies ...

OK Hank, Besides the sympathy for the snow, The only issue a K1 from Philippines traveling through Guam is if the flight stays on course to USA and no other countries? I thought it was NOT recommended to give POE K1 to Guam officials? The United flight course is Manila- Guam-Honolulu- Chicago-MSP. Hank, I hate to question you but are you sure it's ok to use Guam as POE as long as we are flying to Honolulu next and on to Chicago?

Thanks buddy!

PS. Kids love the pics of my Ski-doo MXZ 550 and cant wait to go for a ride in the snow :-) The Fiance/Wife, Not so much. LOL

I just did a quick search and see that other VJ's have asked this and seems ok as long as you DO Stay on a USA bound flight:

Posted 11 December 2012 - 01:08 PM

As long as your flight is non stop from US territory, to US territory... You should be fine.

So, make sure you have non stop flights from Guam to Hawaii and if you come to the mainland afterwards, make sure it's also a non stop flight to the mainland from Hawaii.

Makes sense?

K-1'ers fly through Guam all the time, no issue at all. Honolulu is easy also, I have flown through there numerous times.

Last snowmobile I had was an old Evinrude with a Wankle motor.... I only go to Minnesota in the summer now ;) ... left almost 17 years ago.

Well Hank, We would love to have you back for some Ice Fishing :-)

So One last follow up question regarding Guam as a POE, is 1 hour26 minutes enough time for POE and catching a connecting flight to Honolulu? It is the longest stretch of layover time available with United Airlines.

I think If I don't get some response to the Guam layover time which worries me, I will post this question on it's own for some more replies.

God bless you all!

I have never been through Guam, I have only read of others on here going through Guam. I don't know how the terminal is laid out, to know how far they much walk between POE and the gates.

We cleared POE in under 30 minutes. Not having to deal with customs in Guam saves a lot of time.

Guam airport is small, and not much traffic. She will most likely be the only person needing to POE, and there probably won't be TOO many folks going thru customs other than regular baggage screening. I am sure 1.5 hours will be plenty. 30 minutes is a normal POE in the US at a large airport, but I think I recall some Guam POEs talking about it taking just a few minutes in the past. I am sure the officials have done it many times, and are aware of the time constraints, and will do their best to move her right along.

You could always call ahead and ask for info on the POE process. http://www.ifly.com/guam-airport/terminal-map

Has map (see how tiny it is?) and phone # for info.

This map has more detail: http://www.jal.co.jp/en/inter/airport/oceania/gum/gum_00.html

IIRC, you could get off the plane, walk all three floors in 5-10 minutes at a slow pace.

She will have no problems transitioning through Guam. Guam officials have nothing to do with immigration. She will proceed to the USCIS agents just like at every other port. Once she gets through the connecting gates are not that far away. She will actually just walk back through and will be at the gate in like 5 minutes.

Check your bags to your final destination. Clear USCIS, then on through the transiting passengers doors, then clear TSA, then on to the Honolulu/Houston flight. Do not go down to Guam Customs. Customs is only if Guam is your final destination.

Not risky at all. USEM recommends 7 days. Someone recently did it in 2 days (though I think THAT is pushing your luck!).

8 days is plenty of time. The embassy clearly states to do the medical 5-7 days before the interview.
