Here's some advice that, if followed, would allow the conversation to continue:

Everyone forget the handicapped analogy. Steven obviously did not mean it in the way it's being taken, as he explained, and has admitted its shortcomings.

Ok, are we all good now? Can we stop fixating? Gooooooood.

I think we won't be 'happy' until no-one usages any analogy of any kind ;)

in the meantime, i'm avoiding poor people because erekose said they are more likely to be criminals.

Back to the all about you / semantic bullshit eh?

i know, you'd rather it be all about you, the pompous pontificator

pardon me for stealing your thunder

I know - I should probably do as you did: Throw a huge ###### fit, make a speech about never posting here again, quietly reconsider and then proceed to ridicule the 'hypocrisy' of 'attention seekers'.

How Lisa was once an open-minded, liberal leaning political activist is baffling.

Oooh the personal jab. Nice!

Hey, the wheelchair analogy were YOUR words. If some Republican politician compared minorities to the physically handicapped in regards to ability, you'd be all over it & the whole 'oh he didn't mean it that way' wouldn't wash with you...would it? Nor would it wash if someone else came to this person's defense & was all 'can we stop fixating?' would it?

Nah, on second thought don't even try to explain that one

Nah, don't answer that

Let's just say it says a lot about our general poor manners and lack of willingness to engage in a civil discussion - when we can't give other people here the courtesy of the benefit of the doubt, or allowing them to clarify their opinions.

Note: I include myself in that assessment too.

If you'll notice back in this thread...the first thing I posted in regards to the analogy was asking Steven to clarify. Post 76, Then notice that he posted 2 posts later and never said a word...could he have missed it? sure But then after numerous posts by S, none of which saying a word, I asked him to clarify it again - post 95. So with all due respect, please don't accuse me of poor manners or a lack of willingness to engage in a civil discussion. Can I be rude sometimes and run off at the mouth? Sure, but not this time, no
