It's only this simple in your mind. Macroeconomics is actually quite complex. People can get PhDs in macroeconomics. No one can get a PhD in "household budgeting." They are not the same thing.

But the Republican's always use the wife's checkbook analogy.

Are you saying that they don't get economics either?

Well I'm shocked at this news. lol :)

EIther the government didn't hire any of these folks, or they need to get thier money back from whatever university they attended. It doesn't take a degree to understand that carrying a debt that is ~100% of annual GDP is a bad thing and has to stop. Seems no politicians are interested in resolving that issue.

The tea party success depends on enough Americans believing that they are the same thing. This is why Republicans have been waging this war on education - to dumb down the electorate enough to fall for these fallacies.

But the government shutdown doesn't solve that issue either. We are losing money every day, not gaining money. See, there is one difference between macroeconomics and household budgeting.

How are we losing money? By paying workers that aren't working?

They rely on their constituents soundbite level intelligence. Where they give them a tag line like "government hands off my social security" and they get them to repeat it. Even if the statement is idiotic they regurgitate it.

Just like they've convinced them the government is broke. The entire world would never let the US go broke. Without us buying all the ####### from the entire world their would be no global economy and we'd collectively go back to the caves.

It's really stunning to see the ignorance from a first world country. The world must laugh at the tea party and think they are complete simpletons.

Well I'm shocked at this news. lol smile.png

Well, you could even use that checkbook analogy. Say you have an issue with the transmission in your car that requires a repair worth $500.00 that you do not have. You need your car because you'll lose your job if you can't make there and you can't make it there without your car. If you don't get the repair done, your transmission will blow and you'll be looking at a $2,500.00 repair.

The sound decision is to get that $500.00 repair done and finance the $500.00. That would mean that you're probably be spending maybe $550.00 or even $600.00 for that repair. Still better than either of the alternatives which is a $2,500.00 repiar or the loss of your income. The latter - both of the latter - is what the tea party freaks and someone here on VJ are rooting for.

That's a display of utter ignorance of the issues at hand even if one was to use the checkbook analogy. So, while they bring it up all the time, they don't really grasp it at that level either.

The checkbook analogy they use never involves a prudent decision. It's always not getting cable TV or not going out to eat.

But look at their audience. It's not like any of them would question anything they say. They could tell them that Obama plans on painting the sky green and they'd go home from the rally and make signs in opposition.

Many of the ways the gov is losing money right now was already brought up and dismissed out of hand. I have plenty of others, but if you don't really want to know, why do you ask?

THe probelm is that not only are they getting the transmission repaired, they're getting 20 inch rims, a brand new sound system, a new paint job, and other un-needed things.

Subliminal message received.

Now Obama gives out free rims with each vote.

Fascinating insight into the mind of the right wing voter.

It's obvious you can't carry on a conversation at the adult table since you have no contributions to the discussion, besides what you think are funny one liners Go play:

No, that is incorrect. There are no rims, stereos or paint jobs on the docket. Discretionary spending is at the lowest level in decades. Our infrastructure is being neglected to a point where it is almost criminal. What you are and have been advocating for is not getting that transmission fixed becasue we don't have that $500.00. That's short-sighted nonsense that will cause this country to be in deeper #######, owing more money rather than less and having a smaller economy to tackle that larger debt with.

And your rims comment was the intellectual argument you thought was adding to the debate on the shutdown?

My apologies for thinking it was a joke.

I now know you were being serious...as sad as that is to discover.
