I got to provide an affidavit of support for my husband. I dont work so I want to ask my brother to be a co-sponsor. Now the situation is:

My brother's house hold size = 2 (he n his wife)

Income requirement = $20, 750

My brother went back to school after working for 4 years fulltime. He has tax returns for last 3 yrs but no job. But He owns assets over $100,000. Can he use only his assets along with last three yrs tax returns to sponsor my husband?

Secondly, I also have some property in my name but not in USA. Can I use that as an asset for affidavit of support?

Your advice will be highly appreciated.

Regards

birdyconfused,

A person of working age with no job wouldn't seem to be the best of sponsors, even if they do have sufficient assets to cover the shortage of income. But your brother can use his total household income if his wife agrees to contribute hers to the cause.

Your brother's assets seem to be marginal at best, if they can all be considered. What is the nature of the assets?

Yodrak! Thanks for answer.

Nature of his assets in USA are Property, savings, car. Her wife's income can be used but then she doesnt have last 3 yrs tax returns coz she started working only recently.

What about my assets overseas, can they be used?

Thanks Yordak

But my real question is. Can join-sponsorship be based solely on assets if joint sponsor can show sufficient income from last 3 yrs federal tax returns but is jobless now? I have read the document again but cant find a satifying aswer to this question.

birdyconfused,

Then your asset should be acceptable.

birdyconfused,

I'm sure that Joint Sponsorship can be based on assets alone, with sufficient assets, but your proposed sponsor seems to have barely marginal assets at best based on the information that you've provided. I don't think that anyone can give you the answer to your question except the case officer who is examining the documentation.
