I've read lots of posts from people wondering if they need a medical exam before their interview or not and it seems pretty clear, that as long as you had one before coming to the US and it's not over a year old, that you don't. However we got a RFE asking for a compleated I-693 ( Medical Exam) including. Diane had an exam before coming here, which the USCIS should have. Do we need to have it done again? Wondering if anyone else has had this happen.

from what I gather from asking that question myself a while ago, she wont need another medical exam again cos indeed she only had one less than a year ago for the fiancee visa, what you do need however is to have the supplement vaccination form she received from either the doctor abroad or at the POE to be copied by a recognised civil surgeon. By recognised I mean approved by the USCIS. You can look on their website to find a list of them in your area. Some ppl had luck and the doc copied the vaccionation sheet onto an I693supplement form for free, others charge the earth and get away with it, so if you got quite a few names listed, phone around and ask for prices!

That should be all the info they need!

Good luck

That happened to us too. Instead of trying to get the information out of Morocco, which could have taken forever, my husband just elected to have the two shots again. We got the name of the civil surgeon from the USCIS site and it cost us $132, that included the $50 fee the civil surgeon charged us for filling out the form. Good Luck.

Same thing happened to us too. We got RFE asking for a medical examination and I had my medical done less than a year ago by that time. We were confused and called the info line, read the RFE to them, and they said all we need to do is submit a vaccination supplement in a sealed envelope, and not worry about teh whole medical. So we sent the vaccinations supplement and got a denial letter later, because apparently they wanted a whole medical! Probably lost my previous medical somewhere in their files or just being stupid in general... So my AOS got denied and I lost my legal right to work and I can't describe my frustration. Anyways, we were able to reapply for AOS and EAD all over again, because the denial was for a technical reason and initially I came to the US legally.

So my thoughts to you would be redo the medical again and save lots of trouble for yourself :(

Anastasia is right - if they are asking for the medical and the I693 - then you better do them both (I think that means the US consulate didn't forward it to USCIS or it got misplaced.) If the RFE is for only I693, then do it alone. (We were not asked for any of this, I had only submitted the vaccination worksheet. No RFE and the interview went fine.) Good Luck

Thanks everyone!

Looks like we'll be redoing the I-693. At least we have the chest x-ray from before. That should save a few dollars. Unfortunately there are only a couple civil surgeons near us. Almost afraid to find out what they will charge. Oh well, the good news, if there is any, is that after a RFE things seem to move quite quickly.

I think what happens is that people don't send in the supplement and instead of just an RFE for the supplement the whole medical gets lumped in. So... send in your vaccination supplement with your package and possibly avoid a situation like Anastasia's.

I haven't seen any RFEs for the medical alone when the supplement was submitted.

It happened to us. We received a RFE for the complete medical exam, even though we had submitted the vaccination supplement with our initial AOS paperwork (and the K-1 medical exam was also less than 1 year old).

After all, this is USCIS we're talking about ...

Same thing just happened to me, I received an RFE for the I-693 full medical exam plus the vaccination supplement. When I telephoned the CSC and quoted from the USCIS web site the K-1's exemption if applying for AOS within 1 year of the pre-immigration medical exam, I was told that an immigration officer has the right to request another medical exam and if it's on the RFE you should do it. I expect my original medical exam records must've got lost in the transfer of paperwork to the CA office. Bloody nuisance.

Hi, we are in Iowa, too! Our USCIS medical was in Des Moinees at Mercy Medical Center and I believe it cost $286 for the exam. HOWEVER, minus $70 because that was just for this ear treatment that had nothing to do with the USCIS requirements. Then we got bills for the blood tests and chest x-ray about a month or so later in the mail. Good luck!

Why risk it. Get your medical done.

There has been quite a few people who have had RFE's here for full medical even though supplement was submitted.

Seems like they're really inconsistent with the medical exam requirements. I submitted my AOS application within a year of my K-1 medical, but when my interview comes around (in 2 weeks time) the medical will be over a year old. I have never been RFE'ed for a new medical exam, nor the vaccination supplement, which I did not send with the application but will be bringing with me to the interview.

I will also be bringing a print out of this to the interview:

From Immigration Laws at USCIS.gov

Sec. 245.5 Medical examination.

Pursuant to section 232(B) of the Act, an applicant for adjustment of status shall be required to have a medical examination by a designated civil surgeon, whose report setting forth the findings of the mental and physical condition of the applicant, including compliance with section 212(a)(1)(A)(ii) of the Act, shall be incorporated into the record. A medical examination shall not be required of an applicant for adjustment of status who entered the United States as a nonimmigrant spouse, fiance, or fiancee of a United States citizen or the child of such an alien as defined in section 101(a)(15)(K) of the Act and § 214.2(k) of this chapter if the applicant was medically examined prior to, and as a condition of, the issuance of the nonimmigrant visa; provided that the medical examination must have occurred not more than 1 year prior the date of application for adjustment of status. Any applicant certified under paragraphs (1)(A)(ii) or (1)(A)(iii) of section 212(a) of the Act may appeal to a Board of Medical Officers of the U.S. Public Health Service as provided in section 234 of the Act and part 235 of this chapter. (Amended 8/14/01; 66 FR 42587)(Amended effective 4/1/97; 62 FR 10312)

I remember reading about someone in the same situation as you who contacted their congressman and explained what had happened and quoted this information, and the USCIS miraculously found their K-1 medical exam results. I don't remember who it was, or even if it was on this forum, but it might be worth a try.

This just doesn't make sense to me why ask for another medical examination when you'd already spend money and time having it back in your Country. Well, They are immigration people, what else would you expect?.

Just today I have an e-mail from USCIS asking me for a RFE... and I'm almost sure that is the medical examination thing, let's see.
