All,

I received NOA for interview, N400- Application for Naturalization, dated 11/4/13.

In the letter it states I MUST bring, among other documents, the spouse’s birth certificate. I do not know where the official document is, and I am afraid by the time 11/4 comes, we will not have in hands. We did receive the yellow letter from USCIS to bring previous divorces, and we have that, yet birth certificate, I am afraid I will not have time to obtain.

So, my question is: is this necessary? Or, in this interview, I will be doing the citizenship test, and some verification questions only? Also, will I be able to do the oath in the same day?

Thank you in advance.

PS: Trying to update time line in this forum but having a hard time. Update: Completed biometrics, and going to interview.

it sounds that you are applying based on 3 years rule, they need her BC because they need to verify that your wife has been a USC for 3 years. you might already submitted that proof during the early stages. but, it's good to have it just in case. if she has a passport you can take it with you and it would be enough. I don't think requesting a copy of her BC will take that long , you can even order it online. there are a lot of websites that they can get your BC in a week or less for a fee , they have agreement with various states

You still have almost a month to your interview. If you order your wife's birth certificate I guarantee you that you will have it before that date. Besides you can use a copy of the front of the passport and it will show that she was born here in the US and that should be enough as well to prove that she has been a US citizen for the 3 years. But you never know doing what USCIS tells you to do is better specially when you are in the last phase of the immigration process. So my advice apply for a birth certificate on monday. Look up birth certificate applications in your state and send it with the required amount of money and in God's will you will have it before your interview. Good luck to you.

You must have all the documents in order to avoid headaches. Since you guys were previously married, the IO will probably focus on your current and previous marriage.

My interview: I filed the N-400 based on marriage, got an yellow letter asking for my driver's license, but the IO didn't care to see any document, the only thing she asked for was my Green Card, I had everything with me.

You still have time, try to find it or ask for a replacement.
