Why is it that anything that shows the other side of stem cell research is wrong?

If another civilized species was to examine humans they would be shocked by our disregard of life to survive and our brutality of throwing unborn babies away, aka abortion, and calling it pro-choice..

What is so funny?

Seriously. If an advanced species was to look at liberals, what do you seriously think they would think? Would they say, "Wow, you pro-choice guys are so advanced and civilized. Unlike those religious nuts who are pro-life".

Or do you not believe in other advanced species...

Stem cells are harvested from rejected fertilized eggs from fertilization clinics.

They are *not* left overs from abortions. They are *not* harvested from babies.

I'd be really interested to know what has happened in the Ukraine. It is really terrible if its's true.

But then the BBC also did a story recently that the Chinese government is harvesting organs from executed prisoners to sell to the highest bidders, including rich Westerners who need organ transplants. That's terrible too, but it doesn't invalidate or undermine all organ donors programs.

I don't think Michael J Fox advocates NEW BORN babies being murdered. Damn, why do people have to put him down all the time? I'm not his greatest fan but sheesh, give the man a break.

I don't think he advocates that either, but basically because stem cells research has nothing to do with it.

I just felt it was inappropriate to bring him up. AND in the mocking context with which it was spoken. It really pissed me off to be honest.

Not that it has much bearing on anything, but (at a guess) other sentient (as opposed to "advanced") species would understand the complexity of moral choices.

You've never had cancer, a degenerative nerve disease, or a genetic disorder have you?

Noone is talking about "drinking the blood of babies" - embryonic stem cell research essentially involves biological samples that would be discarded anyway (i.e. that were never intended for implantation). There are certainly ethical issues about the creation of new embryonic stem cell lines for research - but that doesn't change the fact that biological fetal material is already in existence and will be destroyed anyway. The choice is whether or not you get a benefit out of it before it goes in the trash. The likelihood that the embryos are going to be implanted is next to nil - so what's the solution?
