So I posted earlier about my skip packet 3 woes, I just downloaded it and faxed back my DS-230 Part I and filled out the other forms as per request, completed check-list (have all my documents ready) faxed that too, I also went ahead and booked my interview as I don't want to wait any longer and they have told me twice to do it ...

So the question is for anyone who is/has/planning to be in this situation.

When do you plan to hand in your notice at work ?

I dont really want to wait around after my interview longer than I have too, and I also don't wan't assume that its going to be a slam dunk.

I am going to Vancouver, what's their usual interview to visa in hand turn around ?

NOA1 - May 31st

Transferred to TSC - 8th August

NOA2 Email Notice of Approval - Septermber 5th

NOA2 Sent to NVC - September 10th

Case Sent to Consulate - September 23rd

NVC Case # Sent to Petitioner - Received September 30th

Quit once you have the visa on-hand. Something might still go wrong during the interview. 221g or AP perhaps?

But if work (and income) don't matter, yeah you can quit now. content.gif

It normally is a slam dunk unless----You were born in a Country that is not on good terms with the USA--or visited 1 for an extended amount of time. Criminal record, and now throw in the Govt shut down! Yes the Embassies/Consulates are operating normally, but there is no guarantees of that, if the shut down continues for a longer period of time.

Canadians Visiting the USA while undergoing the visa process, my free advice:

1) Always tell the TRUTH. never lie to the POE officer

2) Be confident in ur replies

3) keep ur response short and to the point, don't tell ur life story!!

4) look the POE officer in the eye when speaking to them. They are looking for people lieing and have been trained to find them!

5) Pack light! No job resumes with you

6) Bring ties to Canada (letter from employer when ur expected back at work, lease, etc etc)

7) Always be polite, being rude isn't going to get ya anywhere, and could make things worse!!

8) Have a plan in case u do get denied (be polite) It wont harm ur visa application if ur denied, that is if ur polite and didn't lie! Refer to #1

I was approved in October. I'd told my employers I was in the process of getting my visa. I had been with the company over 3 years and was in a management position so I didn't want to screw them over. I didn't POE until February because I was waiting for my husband to get another job. Once he had once I gave them 3 weeks notice and peace'd the hell out!

because of the gov't issues right now I wouldn't until you have visa in hand. Honestly I quit the right before I went to Montreal for the week before my medical and interview. I knew it might take a few weeks to get the visa back, but I also figured that my job would take me back or I could move to my mom's. I had a plan B.

My interview was on Feb. 14 and there was an issue with my police certificate so I waited about an extra 10 days to have my visa in hand. Anything can happen: a paper can be forgotten etc. Vancouver is really good though, regardless. I left the country April 1st. I gave notice for my apartment on March 1 and quit my job March 23 a week before I left.

If you get stamped with the EAD (90 day) at border crossing and got your SSN about a week after you get there - would you then be able to collect EI for those 90 days? I'm waiting on a call back from Interstate EI on this. Was just curious what your thoughts might be on the matter...

Thanks!

There is no EAD at POE. You apply for that along with AOS after you enter, get married, and receive marriage certificate, and it takes 2 or 3 months to get.
