Hey guys,

So tomorrow my boyfriend is going to attempt to fly down for a four month visit from Canada to Houston, TX. For proof of ties to Canada he has a letter for a leave of absence from his job, a letter from his store manager, a copy of his car registration, his latest bank statement, his latest pay check stub, and his return ticket for February 1st. He has about $5000 in his bank account which I feel like is plenty to convince border patrol he can support himself for those four months down here. So, based on all of this I feel like he has a good chance of being allowed through. My only concern now is that this government shutdown will somehow affect this. Does anyone have any information that may put my worries to rest?

Thank you.

Separate from the state of the government, he may need proof of residence (you don't mention rent or mortgage receipts). I had exactly the same information (less a plane ticket as I was driving from Canada) and was denied entry twice. The letter from my employer, bank statements, insurance, etc. didn't prove residence ties (I live with my family, and no longer have a lease or mortgage). It was the reason we had to apply for a K1 in the first place (they no longer believe I am just visiting...apparently 6 trips in 3 1/2 years of 2 weeks each is too many).

Good luck...the proof of return ticket should help though. I wouldn't think that the shutdown would have bearing, other than maybe morale.
