By the way, you sound a little like a broken record.

Well I guess it's because people just think the govt. can spend all the money it wants, and everything is cool.

I don't get that impression at all. To me it is fairly clear that everyone realizes that resources are limited. That is why sane people want to make good use of them. The insane, on the other hand, want to just pizz them out the window. So they shut down the government which keeps incurring all the bills but doesn't return any of the benefits. That's real smart.

I think we're seeing now that the govt. hasn't been using resources wisely. The govt. is allegedly shut down, yet as far as I can tell, nothing bad has happened. Kinda makes you think the govt. isn't as important as they'd like you to think they are. The longer this goes on the more apparent that will be. So as far as I'm concerned, keep it shut down.

Hurricane Karen is not hitting Texas. Nothing bad has happened to you or those around you because of that system. I guess that kinda makes you think hurricanes aren't as dangerous as some think of them. The longer the storm rages (away from you of course), the more apparent this will become to you. So as far as you concerned, just keep her coming, aye?

Not treating cancer seems harmless at first also. But eventually the drawback to not getting treatment becomes apparent.

I'm sure many many people are hugely impacted, but if it doesn't bleed it's not making the news.

Thinking it's no big deal is what's the problem, because it's not like its doing anything good even its not all collapsing the government. The reaping of this sowing will eventually come to a head. And then nothing will have been accomplished except more chaos to deal with in starting all the agencies and processes back up.

I'm not a big fan of the government. When it shuts down, it makes me feel like these guys.

Anyone who can tell me what movie this is from gets a brownie point.

What about Bob. :)

This shut down is treating the cancer that has been eating away at this country for years.

Man, the tea party propaganda machine sure got to you. The federal government is neither a cancer nor the enemy.

Their out of control spending is the enemy and the cancer.

That cancer has kept us from falling off a deep cliff into a severe depression just a few short years ago. Now, in places like Ireland, they've been fighting that cancer for half a decade now and they're in significantly worse shape than we are. Same goes for any other industrialized country that pursued chemotherapy or the austerity path as it is commonly known. They all emptied their tanks whenh they needed that engine to pull the economy out of the mud. Then wondered why that engine won't start. You'd probably wonder, too. I, on the other hand, said all along that in order to crank up that engine, you've gotta put gas into the tank first. We did. And it cranked up.

Your engine analogies are cute. You seem to think that this massive spending is temporary. It's really easy to start spending money, but very hard to stop. People start getting used to stupid things like the govt. running tourist attractions, and when you try to cut back on that, they throw a fit.

Federal spending has come down more than 10% since Obama took office. The CR that Boehner refuses to bring up for a vote has spending levels below what would have been spent had Paul Ryan's budget been adopted. Now, of course, the federal government is going to spend more thanks to the shut down and it will take in less due to the reduced economic activity and slowing economic growth. What you're advocating for is increasing the deficit and debt. But then you profess to be concerned about the debt. Makes no sense to want to increase the debt while claiming there's too much debt.

I like how federal spending as a percentage of GDP went from less than 10% to about 33% today. I see a problem with that. You don't see a problem when 1 out of every 3 dollars is spent in this country is spent by the U.S. govt.?

ETA: My bad, looks like it's actually up above 35%.
