Boehner: Obama Stubbornly Refusing to End Crisis I Created

WASHINGTON — Speaker of the House John Boehner (R-Ohio) said that he was disappointed after meeting with President Obama at the White House on Wednesday afternoon, telling reporters, “The President is stubbornly refusing to end the crisis I created.”

“Government is about teamwork,” Mr. Boehner continued. “I’ve done my part by putting together an entirely optional crisis that has shut down the government and will throw thousands out of work. Now it’s up to the President to do his part by ending it.”

Mr. Boehner said that he was “flabbergasted” that the President was looking to him to bring the current government shutdown to an end: “So after doing all of the hard work to push the country to the brink, I’m supposed to pull it back, too? How about you pitching in a little, Mr. President?”

The House Speaker said that he hoped he did not have to manufacture another entirely avoidable crisis over the debt ceiling in order to stir the President to action. “Quite frankly, orchestrating these unnecessary stalemates takes a lot of energy and I could really use a rest,” he said.

But Mr. Boehner seemed pessimistic that the President “got the message.”

“Because of my actions, thousands of federal workers have already been furloughed,” he said. “How many more people do I have to throw out on the street before the President wakes up?”

I disagree. Boehner did not create this crisis. In fact, Boehner has not done anything since he was elected. Absolutely nothing. Zero. Zilch. Nada.

Other than submitting to vote 41(?) repeals to the ACA he did nothing at all.

Boehner ties government reopening to 2-party talks

WASHINGTON (AP) — House Speaker John Boehner is demanding that the White House and congressional Democrats negotiate with congressional Republicans about ways to re-open the government and address criticisms of the president's health care law.

Boehner told reporters Friday, "this isn't some damn game." He said House Republicans still want "fairness to the American people" under the program critics call "Obamacare."

President Barack Obama has refused GOP calls to delay a major element of the health law enacted in 2010.

House Republican Whip Kevin McCarthy said that Obama's decision to cancel an Asia trip offers the "perfect opportunity to begin negotiations."

Democrats say they will negotiate budget matters with Republicans but they will not alter the health care law that survived a Supreme Court challenge and Obama's 2012 re-election.

That would be incorrect. But if it makes you feel good to jump on the bandwagon, have fun!

As the majority name one single major piece of legislation that they've passed or even proposed...well except for the repeal of the ACA 50 times.

Just name ONE major accomplishment since 2010?

And shutting down the government doesn't count as an accomplishment because they've literally abstain from action to achieve that.

Generally the Speaker of the House does not introduce bills. Other members of congress usually do that. In the last month or so these bills have been introduced by members form both parties:

I guess it's kinda hard to introduce legislation when you're spending all of your time raising the limit on the national credit card.

That takes maybe 15 minutes.

Kinda shocking so few bills have been introduced in the last month. I only went back ~45 days, so maybe it's normal for congress.

I guess the better question is why does congress need to keep passing bills all the time? Isn't there enough laws on the books already? Why not leave well enough alone?

45 days past, weren't they in recess with the summer vacation?

That too. Makes me wonder why people expect congress to pass laws? Don't we have enough of them? Seems like most of the time they just screw things up.
