Prabhjot Singh, a turbaned Sikh doctor and Columbia University professor, was surrounded recently by a gang of teenagers on bicycles who beat him, fracturing his jaw. He says they called him a "terrorist" and "Osama." His response was surprising.

"If I could speak to my attackers," he said, "I would ask them if they had any questions, if they knew what they were doing. Maybe invite them to the gurdwara where we worship, get to know who we are."

Forgiveness, something everyone could use more of...

"Oppressive language does more than represent violence; it is violence; does more than represent the limits of knowledge; it limits knowledge." -Toni Morrison

He who passively accepts evil is as much involved in it as he who helps to perpetrate it.

Fun fact of the day: Sikhs aren't Muslims.

But what he says is generally accepted and practiced amongst the Muslim community in NYC (I'm sure elsewhere as well, I just happen to have personal knowledge of NY). They are very involved in interfaith outreach and community engagement.

If he had a gun and shot them, their violence would have been validated in most people eyes.

Aww, Marvin, you have too much hope for humanity.

Someone has to do it.

I always get a chuckle out of this Oprah line.

How can you forgive someone who feels no regret for their actions, someone whose sense of right & wrong are in conflict with societies.

Saying I forgive in these cases is like saying thanks to someone who didn't hold the door for you.

MArvin you stole my watch.... I know you say you didn't but I forgive you anyway.

(what sense does that make?)

Context Danno.

Turn the other cheek? You know forgiveness is highly regarded in the bible and the Quran.

Sadly enough, I fear that they catch a lot of grief because most folks don't take the time to learn about who they hate. They think they're all Muslims and terrorists. That shooting that occured last year? I'll wager they thought it was muslims they were killing.

That is two different things but again, when people cop to their error, then forgiveness can be offered.

iMany of these people are like animals in their nature, does a dog feel sorry for attacking another dog?

This misuse of the word forgiveness actually mocks the beauty of actual forgiveness and in the long run, instigates more wrongs.

Someone owes you money and they have no intention on paying you back..... so you tell the person, "I forgive your debt".... I guess it makes you feel more in control but what actually happened? A: Nothing.

This misuse of the word forgiveness actually mocks the beauty of actual forgiveness and in the long run, instigates more wrongs.

He had a turbine? And having a turbine makes one a Muslim? Oh boy!

ETA: This, by the way is a turbine.

Your contribution here as spell checker is most valuable, while we could go on without your silly opinions, I doubt we could do without your Spell-check program.
