Hello

I came to the USA on a k1 and got married . It unfortunatly ended with divorce but I satisfied requirements to remove the conditons on my green card and now have a 10 year green card. When I received this I still had my married name which has since gone back to my maiden name.

I am filing for naturalisation in december 2014 but was wondering how my name will affect this. I am getting married again next summer and I dont want to pay to change my name if I can do it during the Naturalisation process.

I have left the USA many times with my maiden name in my passport and my old married last name on my green card and have got in to the usa fine with divorce documents.

I am just wondering if it will affect my chances in anyway to get my citizenship e.g I have been legally back to my maiden name for many years now and then will have a further name change before filing for naturalisation.

Will they really mind this? They dont when I come back in to the USA and as I said, I can come back in with proper documents. Will they really really mind? I have never got in trouble with the law , am a teacher of special needs and have done everything by the book for my previous USCIS filings etc. I really dont want to pay and file if I can just do it during naturalisation process.

Thanks

No they won't mind when you fill up the application check a name change and put it back to your old name. If you want a straight answer for that I would tell you to go to your nearest USCIS local office if it's close to you. Good luck.

It won't be an issue. There are fields on the form where you put your current legal name and then spaces for other names used. You'll just have to fill these out and provide documentation that explains the various name changes (birth/marriage/divorce certificates).

NATURALIZATION
07-03-2013: Eligible to file
07-22-2013: Application sent (Delivered: 07-24-13)
08-05-2013: NOA1 received (Priority date: 07-24-13, Check cashed: 07-29-13)
08-22-2013: Biometrics (Received: 08-06-13, Walk-in: 08-08-13)
09-03-2013: Inline for interview (Yellow letter received: 10-23-13)
11-04-2013: Interview scheduled (Received: 11-09-13)
12-12-2013: Interview (Approved)
01-03-2014: Oath ceremony, passport application and passport received

DONE!
