Truth. The military has turned into a bunch of whining little girls, and I don't like it.

I was talking about the folks on capitol hill.

Again the govt. has no business getting a bang out of any buck. They're not there to turn a profit. You can't keep spending money you don't have simply to keep the economy going. The government has no business doing that espeically when they have a 16 trillion dollar debt. LIke I said, if we had all this extra money laying around, it might be something to look at. We don't have any money.

I see. We should have never built any national infrastructure.

I can tell you're losing an argument when you start going to the google image well to make your point. Where did I say anything about infrastructure? Since you brought it up, most of that infrastructure was built when we didn't have a debt that was reaching 100% of GDP. Think about that. The debt is 100% of our entire economic output for one year. And you want to worry about some stupid tourist attractions? Go find and image for that silliness and make it your wallpaper.

And today's military? Are they the same tough guys you knew 20 years ago?

I hate to agree but you're right.

When I came in the Army back in 93, it was rough. All men platoons, cussing, hitting, fighting. But I remember out of 60+ soldiers, only one guy quit. Some dude from Mississippi. We had guys with broken feet and legs running the PT test, folks who showed up fat and out of shape pushing themselves to pass PT, it was hard but it made us better.

Now, when I joined the Navy in 99, we had women in our company. Constant bitching, dudes whining about they couldn't take the stress from being yelled at. In the Navy, they can't touch you, cuss at you. Must have seen at least 30 people quit.

I meant the govt. should not be in the business of turning a profit.

It is not turning a profit. It is supporting the growth of the national economy. From such growth, an increased revenue stream results. That stream will be reduced if you put the process in reverse. With a reduced revenue stream, deficits grow. Look at the nations in Europe that have gone that route. All have an economy now that is smaller than it was when the great recession first hit. All have more severe fiscal issues than they had before. All have larger debts now than they had before. And they lack the economic engine to pull themselves out of that mess. They took the gas out of the tank and wonder why the damn thing won't crank up. Well, gotta put gas in first then you can get some mileage. It's really not that hard to understand.

WE DONT HAVE ANY MORE MONEY. WE"RE BROKE. THE FEDERAL GOVT HAS A DEBT THAT EQUALS 6+ YEARS OF REVENUE. THE GOVT. TOOK IN 2.45 TRILLION IN FY2012. THE DEBT IS 16 TRILLION PLUS

That means that theoretically if the government didn't spend one cent for 6 years, and still collected the taxes etc. that they do now, that it would take 6+ years to break even. The fact that you think it's a good idea to spend even more money has me wondering about you.

ETA: It shocks me that folks like you look at those numbers and worry about some touriust attracttions.

It shocks me that you can't seem to wrap your head around the simple fact that taking any wind out of the sail of the economic recovery will slow economic growth, thus reduce federal receipts and therefore INCREASE the deficits and debt. Shutting down the government doesn't save anything. It's literally pizzing the money you say we don't have out the window. How does that solve anything? Right. It doesn't. It makes matters worse. Keep going down that path and there will be MORE debt, not less.

I blog to a few veteran groups online. I can't believe the stuff I am hearing from these new veterans of Afghanistan and Iraq. The Vietnam vets used to keep to themselves, and still generally do, but this new generation, I just don't know. The military reflects society in general and America's innate ability to come together and overcome big challenges seems to be fading. When I was going through OCS, it was all this new stuff they had to teach us, on how to be touchy-feely, and give out warm fuzzies so everybody can feel special, instead of how to be mission oriented. That was around 1988, so I guess you can't blame Clinton or Obama for that #######.

I talked to a young kid a few years ago. He was fresh out.of the Army.

He said they give kids stress cards. They can pull it out and put their thumb on it and if they are stressed they DI has to give them their space

I almost fainted. Is he gonna pull it out in a fire fight and the bullets will stop.

I thought Basic/OCS/Ranger School were supposed to be stressful so we could figure out who would not be able to handle combat.

Damn pussification of America.

Back then it was a different world and war. I've talked to some vets from Vietnam, scary stuff, when they can talk about it.
