I can't believe it's a real letter. It sounds like one of these apocryphal stories that people use to make a point. In this case, I agree with those who say that neither view is good. Disowning a child for being gay or disowning a child for being stupid, neither seem to understand parenting.

Speaking of bigots, it would seem the Grand dad was just as much of one for cutting off his child.

Very few Grand parents know what the family dynamics are like anyway so he could be reacting without knowing all the facts.

Wouldn't be the first time a child told only half the story or embellished why he got the boot.

I guess there is a point at which I would cut a child off, not sure what that is though.
