Reentering the US after a F-1 visa

Hi,

I was in the USA this year from the 1st January to the 6th July on a F-1. I am under the impression I am not allowed to reenter the country (on a tourist visa) until the next calendar year begins - that being the 1st Jan '14.

Is this correct?

I did leave the USA on time, yes. I believe the ESTA is the simple visa you fill out on the plane on the way over?

Is it possible to go back sooner then? I heard the information from my OP from another English person in a similar situation to mine.

If you hold a UK Passport, then you are eligible under the VISA Waiver Program, to participate in ESTA.

I understand the VISA waiver program but given my F-1 circumstances I thought they may be some differences that I can not see on those links. Are you saying that if I got on a place right now they would let me in?

You have to REGISTER with ESTA.
