Healthcare for CR1/CR-2 questions and ACA/ObamaCare

So I will be returning home with my family on Oct 8th and doing some reading I think I might be surprised at some changes. I've been in the Philippines for about 8 months now and I will not be returning home with a job. My question is..with this ObamaCare and ACA stuff going on..how will this affect us? Am I going to have to pay a penalty for something I cannot afford because I'm unemployed? I have some job leads and working with some old co-workers and bosses on trying to get something as quick as possible, but it's never a sure thing.

I tried looking into Medicaid and I'm pretty sure unless my wife is pregnant she can not get Medicaid, but what about her 4 year old soon? He is a minor so I think he qualitfies without having to be here for 5 years...Am I correct?

Of course, I don't want to try and get by and doing something not allowed. I don't want anything to come back on my co-sponsor so I'm looking any advice. I'm just worried about what if securing that job takes 2-3 months. How can I afford $300 a month in penalties for something I already can't afford?

If I understood all that I read with the Obamacare, you have until March 31, 2014 to get medical coverage before the penalties, so that leaves you plenty of time. (if someone knows more about the obamacare deadline for insurance, please correct me if I am wrong!) Congrats! And Welcome Home!

How the ObamaCare Tax Penalty Works

Your tax penalty (shared responsibility fee) for not having insurance is paid on your taxes at the end of the year. If your taxable income is below 133% of the FPL you are exempt from this tax.

2014 = $95 per person per year or 1% of your Income

2015 = $325 per person per year or 2% of your Income

2016 = $695 per person per year or 2.5% of your Income

2017 = Tax Penalty will increase by the rate of inflation going forward, or 2.5% of your Income

This will sound harsh, but when you petition to bring someone over here it only fair that you or the co-sponsor should be responsible for them. We make choices in life, and it's unfair to burden the American people for our choices.
