Successful Interview

My wife and I had our interview today in L.A. and everything went very smoothly. Interviewer asked a few basic question and then asked to see joint documents. She went to make copies of those docs, came back to her desk, typed a few things and stamped the printouts and told us "congratulations, you've been approved!" She said expect the G.C. within 2 to 3 weeks. The thing she didn't say was we still needed to do the FBI namecheck. Can we really assume that the FBI name check is complete since there was no mention of during the interview?? She did give us a letter saying we were approved. She also forgot to take the I-94 from my wife's passport. Is that a problem??

Congratulations on the successful interview. I read many times that sometimes the I-94 card is not taken, I guess that they don't need it, you can either discard it, or put in a scrap book. When you get your green card you will be LPR, and wont have any need for the I-94 card when traveling out of the country.

Did the interviewer stamp your passport too? My wife's passport was stamped, dated and signed by the officer. Of course, she also took the I-94. I would say that you are okay if she indicated you would receive your green card in 2-3 weeks. Once you get the green card, then remove the I-94 from the passport.

It does sound like you are getting a nice Christmas present. As far as the joint documents, that depends upon your individual situation. My wife and I did not have anything held jointly since we had been having problems getting her a social security card. We didn't file taxes jointly because of when we got married. We were able to convince the interviewer of our marriage by showing photos of our trip to meet my daughter's family on the east coast and general discussion of our plans. It seems that the interviewers are the most easy people in the entire USCIS system if you protray an honest and loving relationship. Although, it does help to be completely prepared with lots of documents in case they ask.

But, my impression is that the case files are very thorough. If your interviewer said you were approved without mentioning FBI approval still pending, then you are probably okay. We were both amaze at the amount of information that was in the file.

Wow, she made copies? When we had our interview, I had copies of everything except one piece of paper, and the interviewer sternly told us it wasn't her job to photocopy stuff, and sent me to a nearby community college to to pay 25 cents to photocopy this one piece of paper, and I had to come back and get searched/X-rayed all over again. All because it was more than her job's worth to get off her ####### and use the office photocopier!

Yes, I remember you mentioned she was not nice. Our AO didn't have a problem making a few copies. The whole interview lasted about 6 minutes (half of which she spent making copies and typing her report).
