DOS misinformed me :-(

Well my situation just got completely turned around. On Monday I called DOS and the lady said my file arrived at NVC and that in a few days I should have my case number. I called today and now all of a sudden my file is not at NVC and "Robert at DOS" says he doesn't know why she told me that because they can not see if a file arrives, only when it is issued a case number. I called NVC and confirmed that the news is accurate....My file has not arrived yet. Why would that lady say that to me, I was so excited and happy for the last couple days just to have the rug pulled out from under my feet. Now here I sit, waiting and watching the clock for the next opportunity to call again and again and again. Robert was very apologetic which helped ease the pain but really, why would she say such a thing. They need to train their people better, after waiting 6 weeks and finally getting good news that wasnt true was cruel.

Sadly this is commonplace. I got so much misinformation from NVC during my processing that it made my head spin. One day they said they had my petition, AoS and IV, and the next day they didn't have anything. I even got hard-copy letters in the postal mail stating that they didn't have my petition (how else would they even know my address to send the letter).

In the end, I found about 60% or so of the NVC phone staff were completely unhelpful and tended to spout generic answers. The "Contact us again in 30 business days" was most common, but outright making things up was the next. I think whatever system they use grants them very little information.

I think in your case, the best you can do is contact USCIS to see if the petition was sent to NVC yet. If they claim it was, then contact NVC. Our petition got lost between USCIS and NVC and it took an inquiry at USCIS and a very helpful local USCIS officer to locate the petition and get it back on track. Took almost 3-months from USCIS to NVC receipt.

So sorry that you have to go thru this mess..

FYI, I emailed NVC with ALL our details clearly written in BOLD letters. they replied after 2 weeks that file is not there bla bla but all for a wrong totally different USCIS receipt number. I replied them back saying that we are NOT interested in the status update of that random number they had picked up in their reply..

But I would like to say, RELAX. Don't worry. May be your file already arrived at NVC but waiting for case # to be assigned. (may be so called confirmation given by NVC that your file has not yet arrived at NVC, is a total lie too.. who knows)

On a positive note, you didn't lose anything.. you figured out that what that lady at DoS told might be a total lie.. that too within 2 days.. & you came to know that you are put back in the waiting game..

We all learnt new lesson/info that info given by DoS (or NVC operators) is not reliable until we get our case numbers and DoS can't see when file arrives but only when case number is issued..

Keep up the FAITH. Our turns are coming! God Bless

95% of us with NOA2's the week of August 21 have no NVC number yet (only 2 of 44 that week have a number so far), thus still coming and no need to panic yet.

It seems those from CSC with NOA2 in mid/late Aug and early Sept are having a long wait for case numbers. My fiance has sent thru a servicce request yesterday to find out where our files was. We were told that within 15days they would get back to us. 24hrs after the service request was filed, we got a reply to say:

This notice acknowledges the receipt of a status inquiry concerning your approved I-129F petition. To conclude processing, the California Service Center expects to forward your I-129F petition to the National Visa Center (NVC) in an expeditious fashion.

At the time your I-129F is forwarded to the NVC, you will receive a transfer notice confirming the shipment of the petition. After you receive the transfer notice, please understand that it takes a period of time for the NVC to update its systems. We recommend you wait 90 to 120 days prior to inquiring with the NVC.

Please note that the four-month validity period given when the petition was approved may be revalidated by authorization of the Department of State for an additional four months, if necessary.

We just gotta sit it out and wait. Most CSC are getting case numbers around the 40 days after NOA2. Goodluck

I'm so sorry to hear this - that must be hugely disappointing after such exciting news.

It seems that we are all slogging through the huge and somewhat unpredictable machinery, hoping and praying that things go smoothly. I originally was anxious about getting the NOA2 before end of year, and after that huge surprise, am now waiting to see if we end up in NRC limbo or who knows where.

Hang in there and do remember you have friends here! :)
